Thanks for the DE info. I'm not really near Pomona, and driving my 'burb' out to Pomona may very well cost nearly as much as shipping, but I think it's worth the drive anyway. Thanks! I've been looking for DE locally for a year and a half now and hadn't had any luck. I'll just have to find some kind of excuse to drive out to the Inland Empire. Thanks for the headsup!

But, ummm, you can keep the blonde girl's name for yourself being that I'm married, and female!

Silkiepjsg I wish I could take one of those roos off your hand. Do you have a quiet one by chance

I love polish birds and I lost 2 Mottled Houdans, a White Crested Black Polish among others it would be a great replacement.... Did you happen to get any hens out of that egg batch??

I spread the DE around my house. If you toss it on a trail of ants they flip out, some carry it back to the nest where it keeps cutting them. Its like chemical warfare for insects, thank god theres no Insect Rights Activist out there. If you sprinkle it over there mound it really messes them up. It works on everything that smaller then a Grasshopper. Just don't get it wet.

Oh and if anyone goes to Pomona Feed tell Jesse the blonde girl Bubba says hi

Bubba;
I had one female. I started with 4 polish eggs, 3 had succesful hatches. The female is almost a white laced black color. Mostly black. The boys are both white, with a bit of black in their top-hats. I wish that I could keep a roo and then breed it to the female, but we are already going to keep a white frizzle roo, and then I have a true araucana roo, so that is 2 roos, maybe one more wouldn't matter... But then my problem is making sure who breeds with whom. I hate to keep them in small cages, seperate.

Do you have space to keep them? I'd let you "borrow" them until they breed, and then we could get fertile eggs to hatch. She came out of a blue egg also. What do you think?

Thanks for the info about the ants. I'd love to get rid of them. Only problem is that the sprinklers come on every 2 or 3 days....
Do you wear a mask when putting it out?

What did your chickens die from?

They died from McMurray squeezing them I assume. The black frizzle had a broken neck. The Porcelein died within 2 hours of getting here. The polish and houdans died over the course of a week. They wouldn't eat, I force feed them, IDK never had birds that just up and quit before. Diver I put intensive care into after the houdans died. I kept Diver alive I think for 2 weeks. Maybe they were a bad batch. There was no disease and all my birds as of present are happy and healthy.

I don't wear a mask, maybe I should.... I just hold my breath and toss it everywhere. You could always set out something sweet then follow the ant trail back to the colony and dump some DE right on it. If it doesn't outright kill them it will set them back months on egg/larve production.

How long can you hold onto the roo? If I can keep a roo, I would be happy to loan it back for breeding. I am currently awaiting an outcome to see if I turn into a homeless bum or buy a farm (build one) for 500k. It should be soon but who knows with the courts.

Bubba,
Sorry to hear of the bad batch:(.

I will try the DE thing for the ants, as I dislike them with a passion.

I talked to my husband, and we can hold onto the roo for a bit longer. We put our roos in a box at night, and currently are putting in five! We were hoping to get rid of the roos this week, but looks like we will rid ourselves of 2 of them. We also have a brown cochin, and a double frizzle (white) that I am guessing that is a roo, but may be a hen, so I can actually depart with 3 this week.

I will keep what I think is the best polish roo. He has more color on him. The other one is friendlier, but he is not quite as attractive.
When will you know if you can take him?

Give me two weeks? I gona call some friends up tomorrow in the high desert see if I can stash him there till my situation solves itself. Cathy may take one to, forgot her name on this forum. She was looking for birds, Ill call her tomorrow to. Maybe shell take a roo off your hands to. I will email you my phone number. I love you all but there are alot of lurkers on this site at times. Any single women that want to talk to Bubba can email him to lol

PS How did you breed in the blue color egg gene? From EEs I assume... How many generations did it take. I love genetics, how they work, they mystery and the combos you can make with them.

Hi Bubba,
No phone number has shown up yet. Oh, you may be in spam....

I wish I had done the breeding and knew the answers, as I love that stuff too. the woman I bought them didn't communicate much at all. very short e-mails. She was from quite a distance, and many of the eggs were messed up when I got them. I was actually surprised that some of them even hatched. I got them from egg-bid.

Two weeks should be OK.

I listed the ones left in the free-give-away section.

It's such a long drive though...
