My $100 Craiglist find! Here is the before photo.

Here is the after (well, in progress) We added windows and vents for more air flow. The coop was in Orange County under a large tree and probably didn't need as much ventilation as we need here in our area which is significantly hotter. We had to shorten the yard so that it could fit where we wanted to put it. The hens will get lots of free range time, so I'm not sad about the yard being small. Still have to put the tin roof on for shade and attach the yard, but the paint job and new windows helped it!

Available Easter Hatch Chicks. Straight Run $10 each. English Orpington from a Lavender Split Pen so the Blacks are Split to Lavender ( will produce the Lavender color when bred to Lavender or another Black split to Lavender) I live in the San Bernardino Mountains and work in Norco.

... To get here before Susan is quite the accomplishment. Seriously, welcome to the community. Do some browsing and definitely post pictures of your flock, coop, and just about anything else that you want people to see...

This is from the other side. My 8-year-old picked the red color. He wanted it to feel like a farm! Love that boy. Still need to figure out a roost option.
just put 2x2s everywhere; like between those uprights just above the lil dude. Do the same inside the coop, that should make the girls happy...

Does anyone know where a teacher could get fertile hatching eggs? A kindergarten teacher at my son's school asked me yesterday and I have no idea where to get them locally as I always get them shipped from BYC members. Any ideas would be appreciated, we are in the Los Angeles area.

I want to be able to rake the yard part and I was thinking if I put 2x2's in the yard it would be difficult to rake around. Hmmm? Would just having a roosting area in the coop part be enough?

Craigslist is a great place to look. I know of a few breeders in the Riverside area. Also on Facebook there is a group California Poultry People that is very helpful too. For my son's class hatch I bought the eggs from a couple breeds I knew lots of people would be interested in and when the class was done observing their chicks I took the chicks home and sold most of them at the last meetup. :)
