. Here's a cute one... Nap time!

I think like you said, everyone is running their breeding business in addition to other life stuff & prone to error. I think everyone should get to inspect their birds & decide if they are right for them. I breed rats & I always give people the chance to handle them, check them out, even return them if it isn't working out. I think that's a breeder's responsibility if you bring animals into the world. Now in saying that, if someone sells chicks as straight run then of course they don't have to take them back because they turn out to be roos & all potential chicken owners should be made aware that sometimes chicks die even if the breeder & new owner did everything right. But if you said you wanted a certain color & that color isn't available after they said it was, you should have the option to say no thank you so you can get what you really wanted. It is all in the pre-sale wording & being careful next time might mean some clarifications on both sides as to expectations. We all learn by experience on what we would do different next time in the same situation. I'm sure you will love these birds anyways, silkies are so cool :)

I am in Rancho Cucamonga. We have our coop built but we have not added the chickens yet. We are interested in getting 1 Barred Rock, 1 Golden-Laced Wyandotte, 2 Silkies, and 1 more of undetermined breed. Would this be a good mix? Where is the best place to buy the birds? Rancho Cucamonga does not allow roosters so I have to be certain I get only hens. I have researched Chickens Galore! but I am not certain they guarantee the gender, which is a must. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thank you.
Dans feed in perris has chicks that are sexed so far all the ones i bought from them has been pullets.. the price is $2.95per chick its a drive but you will find what u are looking for.. they stock every Thursday might want to call them to see what breeds they have... worth the drive...

Its amazing how fast they grow!

Awww...they are adorable all snuggled up! You have some beautiful color in your group!

Thanks, guys! We also have a White Rock and a Barred Rock, but they haven't integrated enough to share snuggle time yet. It really IS amazing how fast they grow - my friends who only see them every couple of weeks are always astounded. They've definitely slowed down, though I know they still need to just about double in size.

Yay chickens! I love them!

I am rehoming some rooster boys to no kill/no eat homes so my kids still love me for anyone who might possibly be interested in any of my boys. I am in Riverside/Norco area but am willing to drive for good homes. I just have too much crowing going on & don't want to make neighbors mad. I feed organic Scratch & Peck feeds to all my chickens.

Hope you find the homes you are looking for; sorry I can't offer one. The mixed silkie pic is very cute.

Totally! My friend brought her kids (ages 4 and 3) to come see the chicks 1 week after we got them. They came back 2 weeks later and the kids couldn't understand how fast they grew. Fast forward to 3 weeks ago, when my chicks were about 3 months old, my friends son (the 3 year old) played with them, but then asked me where my "other chickens" were, "the baby ones." He could not comprehend how fast they had grown and still expected to see little fuzzy babies. "Why they grow?" :lau On another related cute kid note, I told him I might get a couple more chickens and then he asked, "you fire these chickens? They get fired?" :lau
