California-Southern

Yeah, I checked out the other black skinned breeds and gasped at their prices. I think the American suppliers of black bone chicken to Chinese markets (ie 99 ranch market) work with a silkie and large fowl cross that has fibromelanin and grows quickly. My mom told me that in Taiwan, homegrown silkies take at least 3 months to reach butchering size and even then they're so small that they fit within a small pot and you have ample space for all kinds of herbs and stuff.

Anyone have turkey eggs or poults for sale or interested in ordering/purchasing together (less expensive w/larger quantity) also meat bird order.
Also, I can raise them for you if you don't have the space (freerange on my farm) and process as well when ready for freezer camp. I'm in east Co SD on 75ac so lots of space for turkeys to roam.
I look forward to helping you.

Is anyone in the Riverside/Inland Empire area currently raising black soldier flies? I'm having a lot of trouble getting my compost bins to take off.

Southern California is so huge reaching from San Diego to Central Calif - We're not little Rhode Island or Connecticut so it's hard to really be close to each other but it's good for keeping up with news and meetup info and

You guys know of any chicken breeders/ hatcheries in California??
There's Belt Hatchery (Fresno?) and the costly California Hatchery broker but I suggest you post the breeds you want on here to see if there are private breeders where you can pick up locally. I've also found a lot of NPIP breeders on BYC's California - Northern thread but that would involve paying for USPS shipping. Also my two local feed stores are currently filled with a lot of chick breed varieties. San Dimas Grain, and Wes's Pets & Feed (El Monte). Check your local listings to see where your closest feed store is and call them to see what chicks they carry. For Silkies there is a breeder in Norco - Amber Waves Silkies on the website where you can pick up in person. Be pro-active searching and you'll eventually find what you want.

Hi, I'm in LA County. There are probably more chicken enthusiasts in Ventura County =)
Ventura County has an interesting APA chicken event in the fall, which is a good way to find people in your area.
It is at the Ventura County Fairgrounds and is hosted by the Seaside Feather Fanciers.
