Well, I am re homing my silkies because they aren't nearly as sweet as the others. As for the "egg basket" mention, my flock is established based in personalities and who I think are beautiful (and different) breeds. I have an order into Greenfire for Swedish Flower Hens and a light Sussex. As of now, we have a VERY docile, agreeable, sweet mix- even with the silkies. Sorry, Sylvester107, about all the issues you seem to encounter- hope things work out!!!
Yep, in a very small flock it didn't work for us to mix 2-lb Silkies with 7-lb dual purpose or egg layer breeds that became bullies toward the little Silkies. I've had 5 years and 13 chickens to cycle through to get down to the 4 gentles we have now. I'm finding 4 pet hens more than enough for the moment to handle in our small cottage backyard. I once lived on 25 acres with chickens, geese, ducks, sheep, goats, aviary birds, horse, cows, dogs, cats but in our retirement cottage I just wanted a little flock of sweet chickens to keep it a little "country."
