It's supposed to cool down by 10o end of week. We'll see. Yep, EEs (nor Ameraucana) like heat. Ours would sit under the mister spray all day long while others foraged. I'm not getting any more heavily under-downed or large dual purpose like fluffy Bielies, Orps, Favies, EEs, or Amers -- I need heat tolerant breeds that lay decent like the lightweight Dominique and Breda. Our Silkies do remarkably well in heat - probably because of their wispy feathering. Smaller and lightweight breeds thrive so much better in our hot weather. So in 100+ weather again, now I can say I've found heat tolerant birds are: Plymouth Rock, Phoenix, Sussex, Marans. Heat INTOLERANT birds: Faverolles.
Heat drama birds: Easter Eggers.
The Easter Eggers are definitely suffering and they're such drama queens they end up not being smart about cooling down. One in particular I'm sure I'll lose to a heat wave some day.
Oh dear. Sorry to bug y'all again with something else about my rooster Nero but apparently he's got something serious.... HE'S FAMOUS! Allow me to introduce Cackle Hatchery's Easter Egger cover boy! LOL. they've got some excellent user photos they've uploaded, so I sure didn't expect Nero to be #1.
His late hatch mate Jersey made it too, but photo 11 of 11 in White Jersey Giants. I'm not so sure how I feel about that because while he was BEAUTIFUL he died from a tumor but hey, I sent then the picture so they can do what they want.
Here's my spoiled monster:

I THINK this means Nero will be printed on the catalog. Heeheehee. You can all tell your friends you've seen pictures of him MOLTING. haha. Poor buttless Nero, what a time to lose his tail, right when he gains celebrity status!
He is BEAUTIFUL!!! I'm sorry you lost him.
I'd love for them to not end up in a soup pot, which is where they are destined if I can't find homes....
I hatched a lot of eggs, so I gave away the first 60 or so. Now I have about 9 that have to go. We processed our first 2 a few weeks ago and they were VERY tasty. But I picked the plainest ones. The fancy ones, I am having trouble making that decision. Not sure I could eat the silkies.I wish! Best of luck! I'd love a Dominique rooster but I'm at capacitydo you process yourself? Or do you have someone who takes them?![]()
