Oh dear. Sorry to bug y'all again with something else about my rooster Nero but apparently he's got something serious.... HE'S FAMOUS! Allow me to introduce Cackle Hatchery's Easter Egger cover boy! LOL. they've got some excellent user photos they've uploaded, so I sure didn't expect Nero to be #1.

His late hatch mate Jersey made it too, but photo 11 of 11 in White Jersey Giants. I'm not so sure how I feel about that because while he was BEAUTIFUL he died from a tumor but hey, I sent then the picture so they can do what they want.

I THINK this means Nero will be printed on the catalog. Heeheehee. You can all tell your friends you've seen pictures of him MOLTING. haha. Poor buttless Nero, what a time to lose his tail, right when he gains celebrity status!

Here is my frizzed roo. I really am not sure where I got him from. He has yellow legs. I believe the only frizzed eggs I ordered were EE Mixes. I had 2 hatch. This was the only frizze that hatched curly. The other smooth frizzle was white.

She is beautiful!! I love the fluffy feet!!! I am not zoned either, that's why I need to rehome him. I can't imagine how cute the babies would be!!!!

Yep, and who knows? The barred offspring might even inherit the auto-sexing feature too - altho I don't know that much about genetics!

I know nothing about genetics!! I wish I could keep a few roosters to see how the auto sexing genes work.

I had to temporarily rehome a bunch of my chickens while I fought the zoning laws. That's where this guy was. He was just a baby when I relocated him, I wasn't sure he was a roo. Well, I picked up 7 of the hens and this guy and brought them home last weekend. They had been free ranging. I've been told he had been acting like a rooster with most of the hens.

I've been collecting the eggs the girls are laying, and I will set them this weekend. They are all still in isolation, since they were offsite for 3 months, so they aren't super comfy. I'm only getting 1 or 2 eggs a day. I'm setting up a nicer isolation area for them this weekend. If the eggs are fertile, I could have some strange looking babies!!!

I'm in East SGV. If we lived in other parts of the country we'd be in different States! SoCal is so HUGE!

Yes!!! In Simi they have added to the rules that if you are part of 4=H in any way and that you have at least a 5000 sq ft lot, you can keep up to 6 hens. Since I"m on 2 acres, the compliance officer said that nobody was EVER going to come up and count my chickens, so he didn't feel I needed to stop at 6. He also said, as long as my daughter is in 4H then if they get a complaint about my chickens, they just tell the caller that I'm allowed to have them.

What's the zoning like in your area. I believe that most of Los Angeles have pretty easy chicken laws. In most cities you are even allowed to have roosters.

Is SGV still part of Los Angeles county?
