Edit: Success!! HOME FOUND! =) one of our local farms with a free range flock is willing to take him, especially since they have a couple pullets and he’s a bantam.


Hello-- we're looking to rehome a bantam frizzle rooster. We already have a rooster and need to find a new home for him. He has been treated for mites and worms and comes from a free-ranged, healthy flock.

Location: San Diego, but will drive anywhere in Southern California
Age: 4.5 months
Color: Black
Weight: 2 lbs
Vaccinated?: Yes. Purchased at 3 days old in a straight run during Hawthorne Country Store Peep Show. All chicks sold by Hawthorne Country Store come from a breeder who vaccinates their chicks.
Temperament: Curious, a little skittish since he was raised by a hen and not by the brooder

Hey All!

I'm located in Alpine, CA (east of San Diego)

I'm getting 6 ducklings (was going to be 5, but I decided 1 more wouldn't hurt - story of our lives right) from Metzer in about 2.5 weeks. I'm working on setting up their brooder, and I've got all the materials to build their house, working on the framing and predator-proofing this week.

Does anyone in Alpine/Lakeside/El Cajon/San Diego have anything laying around that I could pick up to use for them? Will send duckling tax photos!

We spray down our run/coop and supply frozen jugs of water in the nesting box and ice cubes in their water but what do you all do to keep your birds cool during the heat waves? Our birds are also in a shaded area from about Noon on so their yard positioning is perfect. We also let them out to free range with supervision to find their favorite shady tree / bushes to lay in and forage under.

Just looking for other ideas as well

We had 2 for the past couple years but one passed away yesterday and it’s heart breaking listening to our duck quack because she’s alone and looking for her friend. We have a runner duck now, the one that passed away was a blue Swedish, she was awesome. Anybody have any leads on someone selling a duck in Southern California? You could inquire at your local animal shelter. It looks like the Ventura County shelter has two adoptable tomorrow (they look young and I don't know what kind though).

Thanks for the suggestion! We went there 2 days ago to see them but they wouldn’t even show them until the 3rd. I work today but my wife is going to stop by there today and try to figure out if one or both is a female. Fingers crossed
