Hi everyone~

I'm from the central coast area. I just inherited a flock of 10 chickens, whew! Learning a lot right now! I have 3 white silkies, 1 Ameraucana (I think) and a bunch of mixed hens.

Looking for a more permanent coop right now. (If anyone is local and knows of a used one, let me know!) Right now the ladies are just in a fenced in PVC area with a cover. I threw a tarp over half of it and stuck some sticks through the corners for roosts.

Excited though that I just got my first egg!

She always has some for sale and she just gives away the roos. I live in Thousand Oaks (Ventura Co.) find her on Craigs List. I want more but I want to make sure their hens,it's so hard getting rid of roos me and my kids get so attached to our "girls" LOL

Hi Cara! I'm one of the local yokals up here in Julian. I've never seen a Serama in person. I'm afraid to . . . afraid I'll want one. See you at the meet-up!!

Hi all...I am new to BYC. I am located in Hesperia in the high desert region of southern california. I was hoping someone may be able to point me in the direction that I might find some specific chickens for sale.

I am looking for 4 started pullets.... 2 Rhode Island Red pullets and 2 Barred Plymouth Rock pullets. Over the last couple months my family (me, wife, 2 daughters...7 & 4) have built a coop and converted a 20 x 20 dog kennel into living quarters for our new family members and it is now ready for tenants.

I am looking for those 2 breeds since we would like to have some good brown egg layers that will also make good pets. Looking for my kids to have the same good experiences with chickens that I had when I was little.

Any help would be appreciated. Don't have the resources or accomodations to raise chicks so would need to start with some that are ready for the current outside accomodations we already have. So are there any chicken moms out there who would be willing to part with some of their flock or are going to be having any available in the near future they would be willing to sell? I would happily drive to any of the neighboring counties (L.A., Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino) to pick them up.

Would even be willing to fund the expenses for a surrogate mom to add some extra chicks to any orders they may be placing for themselves.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Greetings all. I haven't posted in a while because I didn't have much to say :) I recently bought two Calico Cochin bantams, and find them so cute! One is just over a month old and the other over two months. I can't wait until they lay just because I want to see how small their eggs are, LOL!

DesertBirds, Your coop and run sound fantastic. Red Barn in the SFV usually carries RIRs and BRs chicks (pullets), but not until the weather is warmer and stable. I assume there are other stores that will do the same come warm weather.

There are quite a few of us in the High Desert in general...not necessarily Lancaster/Palmdale (though I am sure some are). A few of us live in the Victorville/Hesperia area and some up in the Inyokern/Ridgecrest vicinity.
