I'm going to try like heck to be there. I don't have any chickens yet and seem to having a hard time finding what I want! Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, and you'all can help me out?

I want a mix of breeds, if possible, but all small (and cute!) - silkies, D'Uccles, Serama, Japanese, Cochins. But I'm reading more and more that breeds do not get along with each other, that silkies especially do not get along with others?

There are loads of birds and a great assortment of household items/equipment available every time I've been. There seems to be a good percentage of junk but also usually a few worthwhile items. Many of the birds are old, castoffs, weird mixbreed what-nots... but there are also a lot of GREAT things for sale - we bought a peahen there, an old english game bantam, and some guineas. None of them were sick. Its not just poultry either, I've seen doves finches parakeets cockateils love birds
For sure, never a dull moment.
But, it'll take all day. ALL!!! DAY!!! Bring a book.

And its pretty relaxed. Not intimidating at all.

You simply MUST come to the Meet-up! There will be lots of birdies to OOGLE over, ask questions about and be able to make an educated decsion and take em' home that day. Kate from OCSERAMS will be there to talk about the Serama breed, also a few other serama knowledgable peopls.

I think I will be ready by then. I injured my hands really badly a few weeks ago and am still not able to do any construction-type work (the good news: I still have all my fingers. The bad news: only eight of them still work), and next week I am out of town, but in between I should be able to get myself organized enough and get my coop furnished properly.

For anyone interested in wildlife education, btw, I will be volunteering at a golf tournament and dinner to raise funds for Zoofari/Wild Wonders, which is in the San Diego area, on the 22nd. send me a note for details if interested, I don't want to spam the there. But even if you don't golf, you can buy tickets to the dinner and get to meet the wonderful Victor cheetah, a cheetah I helped raise when I lived in South Africa.
