CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

Mooncat, It's JUlie isn't it..........We will probably have to travel for the workshop if he agrees to do it. You can come my way & we can ride share if you want. That is if he wants to do them in his home area. I do believe he lives up near Petaluma or Santa Rosa.
Sarah............Hope your back is feeling better. Didn't know you had Nankins or Modern Games. I have a guy here in Turlocklooking for Frizzled Cochins. Do you happen to know anyone that has any....?????? LOL
I'm sure I will have some. I have white and black frizzled and smooth Cochins. They are laying very well but my fertility is terrible! I need to trim the feathers around the vent. Their butts are too fluffy to get the job done. Lol I will be getting rid of the modern games. We just have them for showmanship but the kids like Nankins better. So as soon as my Nankin pair start giving me babies I will sell the MG pair. They are laying so I might incubate the eggs and sell the chicks. I don't like the MG birds. I think they are funny looking.

What kind of facility would work best for you? What would you require/need?

Someone's ranch or the fairgrounds? Do you have a suggestion?

When I hear Sonoma, all that comes to mind is winery.

I can talk about chickens anywhere, but it would be best to have a few birds of the same breed to show breeding examples. The fairgrounds cost money. I am in Santa Rosa and I know there are other BYC'rs here.

Maybe I should ask for suggestions on the Bay Area thread, since I'm not familiar with the area. Unless you have an idea?

I have my eleven Braden Delawares (born on Thanksgiving) that I would like to figure out whether any are suitable for breeding. None of them are good enough to show, but they could be used to demo faults and maybe selection. Not the best breed to use as an example but I'm offering just in case.

This is turning into quite the plan! Chicken education, new friends, road trip and fun. (I am also lucky in the understanding hubby department. He indulges me and tolerates my avian addiction.)

Our incubators are coming along great and we have had some requests. We will custom stain these to request or leave unfinished for our customers to stain as they chose.

We will be adding these to our website storefront shortly!!!

Here is a prototype....

Congrats on the orders. Hope you do well......hmmm Maybe we need a custom incubator section in the first post.

I lost my internet connection in the wee morning hours. Called Comcast and get a recording that there was a major problem and estimated time of repair was 1008 hrs! Panic mode set in. This is my connection to the outside world. Talked to a tech and got a ticket number for account adjustments and though "OMG..noooo" Don't know if it's completely fixed, but so glad I'm on. Over slept and so much to do.

Hate to admit, but I also think wineries when I hear Sonoma. But, I need to ask someone who uses that area for training, or used too, if they have a place we can use.

What variety was he, and how old?

Someday, I would like to have turkeys. They would need to be good to eat, and being able to cook select parts quickly without the meat being tough is a plus.

Kim

He was a Black Mottled, and hatched in September, so five months old. I think a few more months would have filled him out nicely, but I had too much fighting going on in my pen and he was a cull for breeding. I've got two more to go, but pulling one out seemed to have eased the tension, so I'll let them grow a little more. The breast meat was very tender in the stir fry, but I put the thigh meat in too. It was a little tougher, but very tasty. Very red too, much redder than a grocery store turkey thigh.

Yum...the turkey talk is making me very hungry. It is amazing how much better the home grown birds and eggs taste. I just got a new egg customer who refuses to eat eggs in restaurants now that he has tasted the good stuff :)

Oh man! I would love to go to the heirloom festival! That would be a blast.

When is it? DH and I love to camp. We camped with BYCers for the first Nor Cal meetup and swap in Kelseyville. We enjoyed it so much. The camping and the company was great!
