Thanks Karen! He's is the kitchen with 2 Orp chicks for company. I have a feeling this is a little roo. Looks like it to me so far. You all know I'm the Queen of the roo keepers, but in this case I sure hope so. Would be a lot of work to make more with just one girl, so I'm actually keeping my fingers crossed. I also brought home a Davis roo!!

So happy to be able to have the chance to hatch out another pure Davis flock. Wonder how poor Harley is gonna feel when he only has 2 hens. Oh well he'll get over it. hehe.

Thanks!
If you get overrun with silkied Ameraucana roos, I'll be glad to take one off your hands. I've been following that thread too. I'd love to start a few silkied AMs!
Best of luck hatching out new peepers!

I cannot help but wonder if something tragic happened to the owners of A&L Poultry in Turlock. I can't imagine them letting all those hens starve to death like that without putting out a call for help.

Too bad those "factory farm" guys don't know about us. If some local in Turlock had posted on here that they were in financial trouble and had a bunch of hens he or she needed to rehome and/or assistance with culling them (not the best idea, but would have been better than what did happen), the BYC community would have done what we could to help. Maybe couldn't have fixed the problem, but some of the battery hens would have been rescued if they'd just let folks know. This is a tragedy that could have been avoided, unless something untoward happened to the owner(s) or caretaker(s) of that ranch.

Some of the hens survived, but they don't know what they're going to do with them. But dang... just leaving 50,000 hens in a henhouse without food or water for weeks to just die .... when I went to bed last night, I was in tears & my stomach was in knots for those poor birds.

You'd think with that many birds there would be help there. Even one or 2 people. So where are they? Something just doesn't add up. Have they even found the owner yet? I'm watching the news right now and they haven't said anything about it. I just can't imagine. I have had birds that I though were much too thin, but they had food and water, so IDK. I wonder exactly how long they were left there. Extremely sad and strange all at the same time.

mendocinosunris this little guy is aweful tiny and I guess their mortality rate isn't the greatest. I'm terrified I'm going to do something wrong with him. He's so cute, but I'm even affraid to pick him up till he grows some. Is that crazy? LOL Hopefully this will go good and I'll be able to get those genes to take off for me later. That's why I really hope it's a roo, so I can use him with my girls to get more stock. Would be nice to not have to wait for someone to lay eggs. My roo to pullet ratios are always in favor of the roos with my hatches, so I'm sure I'll be able to help a lot of people out with adding them to their flocks. Trust me, I get a LOT of roos. LOL

I added Youth Groups to the first post. Need some groups added, so anyone with information, please post it and I'll add to the list.

WOW today is NUTZ!!! Preparing for a big meeting over at Yelp, picking up eggs/chicks/adults at post office. My brain is on overload.

Feels very much like a chicken factory here today. I've got eggs in five incubators, one filled with eggs that are to be shipped out today, one filled with MFL & buff laced brahmas hatching, another 3 just incubating...

Then a cage of the new rhodebar pair I got this am, a brooder full of mille fleur chicks and blue laced barnevelders... I'm loving it!!

And so many nice compliments on my birds and what I'm doing to preserve them...that's my favorite part.
