I cannot help but wonder if something tragic happened to the owners of A&L Poultry in Turlock. I can't imagine them letting all those hens starve to death like that without putting out a call for help.
Too bad those "factory farm" guys don't know about us. If some local in Turlock had posted on here that they were in financial trouble and had a bunch of hens he or she needed to rehome and/or assistance with culling them (not the best idea, but would have been better than what did happen), the BYC community would have done what we could to help. Maybe couldn't have fixed the problem, but some of the battery hens would have been rescued if they'd just let folks know. This is a tragedy that could have been avoided, unless something untoward happened to the owner(s) or caretaker(s) of that ranch.
Some of the hens survived, but they don't know what they're going to do with them. But dang... just leaving 50,000 hens in a henhouse without food or water for weeks to just die .... when I went to bed last night, I was in tears & my stomach was in knots for those poor birds.
Sad to say that I live right here in Turlock & knew nothing of it til I read your post. I am the first to admit that I play Ostrich & hide my head in the sand alot & am prone to living in my own little world we have created here. My husband watches the news, but I don't. I asked him about it & he said yes, it was on the news but just said Stanislaus county & that it was an egg ranch that they just abandoned. I can't imagine..
WOW today is NUTZ!!! Preparing for a big meeting over at Yelp, picking up eggs/chicks/adults at post office. My brain is on overload.
Feels very much like a chicken factory here today. I've got eggs in five incubators, one filled with eggs that are to be shipped out today, one filled with MFL & buff laced brahmas hatching, another 3 just incubating...
Then a cage of the new rhodebar pair I got this am, a brooder full of mille fleur chicks and blue laced barnevelders... I'm loving it!!
And so many nice compliments on my birds and what I'm doing to preserve them...that's my favorite part.
Hey i'm in CA, can I join?
Absolutely....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come join the fun. As long as we all play "nice" the more the merrier.
Quote: Awwww man!!! Now I have to be nice too? You're no fun at all Karen. JK!!! You know we all love ya!![]()
Welcome JerseyGiantfolk! Happy to have ya!![]()
Good luck at the doctor Kim! You should post pics of your cast.Jeez this pic addiction of mine is getting out of hand.![]()
Cheryl that sounds like so much fun!!! Kim is right, I need more than one bator!
There is a two in one show at Bakersfield 3/3. All bantams though...two sets of judges.Added a couple of shows to the first post, but didn't add this one. There's a rabbit show in Turlock at the fairgrounds this Saturday. Hope to see some of you there. I had thought this show was next month, but Karen let me know today when it was.
ONLY 1 bator!! oh yes minimum is two isn't it![]()
