CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

Oh and I have a friend who is an attorney. She is going to help me with the process of small claims court. It's not really about the money but she won't admit any wrong doing. She kept saying over and over "dogs just kill chickens, I can't help it".
Even after I asked for her to chain her dog she said she "can't".
The fact is the dog came on to our property killed a chicken and hurt our goose.

Worse than that, it tore a big hole in sweet Abby's heart. Won't be the last time she gets her heart broken, but she shouldn't have to learn about mean people at such a tender age, and in this manner. And the look on Paige's face in the photo on the way to the vet just makes me want to cry too! Please give them extra hugs from your BYC friends tonight.

Thank you so much for everything! What a hard lesson for them to learn so young. There is no amount of money that can replace the love between Red Wagon and Abby. I'm so thankful for all my friends supporting us through this.
BTW- Animal control didn't call me back. I'll be calling again in the morning.

I'm glad you are taking her to court. She obviously won't learn the harm she has done unless it hurts her in some way. Your animals should be able to be safe from neighbors dogs on your own property. If it had been my dog, I would have been horrified and of course would have secured him on my own property. I feel very bad for your little girl. She looks like she loved that chicken a lot.

I know! If my dog did that I would be so embarrassed and pay for whatever damages happend right then. I would also make sure that would never happen again.
Her attitude is what's sad.
I'm 37 years old and have never wanted to take legal action towards anyone BUT because of what happend and her "o, well" attitude I am.

My neighbor at least had the grace to be embarrassed when this happened, but I think she knew I'd shoot her dog in a heartbeat too. The only thing stopping me was that her son was honest and came over to tell me what was happening, since I hadn't heard it. She did pay for my birds and I think she got rid of that dog also, but it's traumatic however the outcome goes. I hope the small claims judge throws the book at her.

Quote: I'm so sorry for your loss and your daughter's loss.

When my son was showing rabbits in 4-H, a neighbor's dog came onto our property, killed several rabbits, tore up cages, chewed off toes and broke legs. I knew who the dog belonged to, but of course he denied his dog had ever left his property.

I told him fine, if you should happen to see the dog that did this, let the owner know they will be responsible for three times the value of the animal and it's breeding potential (I made that up, but I do know the value is compounded in the courts). I told him, these were show rabbits and worth $200 plus each.

He never admitted liability, but I never saw the dog again and that was my goal.

I had another neighbor's dog kill his birds when we were in a different house. I didn't want to start a neighborhood fight, that dog disappeared

My kids don't understand why people are so mean. We prayed for them.
It's been quite the learning experience for the girls.
I was just thinking about that myself.... sorry to butt in, but I can't help it. Horrible neighbors, citizens, people..... all those people are folks that really have not any idea what it must be like to be happy. I'm thinking about how awful it must be to be in THEIR life, too... to be so heartless and feel that it's OK. I will pray for the family too..... the dog, who unfortunately, was probably just doing what he/she was never taught NOT to do. May Red Wagon have a restful peace now.... no more torture from the dog, and your daughters are learning things that only things like this can teach. AAAAarrrrrrgh. So sorry.....

Yes very tough lesson for my girls. Abby keeps crying off and on. I am so emotionally drained.
