Can be turkeys be showed at poultry shows? Do they have their own separate showing thing going on? Do toms show better than hens because they display?
I might get into showing turkeys if I can get some chocolates next week... Unless those aren't showable, then I'll just be a simple minded birdy owner again.

APA recognized breeds -

Beltsville Small White

Bourbon Red

Narragansett
Royal Palm
Slate
White Holland

You don't see nearly as many turkeys shown as chickens, ducks or even geese. But you can certainly show them.

hey deb, I was looking at the showgirl thread, and you were admiring partrige ones. Somehow I hatched a whole bunch if ou end up wanting one or 2 let me know.

Also, fellow californians, i'm looking for a blue or black show or very high quality showgirl rooster, could also be frizzled showgirl. if anyone sees one give me a holler. I can drive a long way, or ship him if hes the right one!

Its been a tough chicken week so i started looking for a present for me , lol.

I'd love a partridge showgirl or two. I've only hatched two, both out of paint showgirl eggs. I got a pullet (Earlene, who I adore) and a white cockerel that will be rehomed (four toes on each foot). The other birds I hatched all were silkies, a few whites and few "off" colors.

Speaking of cots...2 more of these little buggers followed me home from Lindsay yesterday. That is it - I get the message - I am officially raising the little stinkers! OK, need to figure out how to set up a coop for then. Maybe once my broodies are done raising babies this year I can convert one of the eglus to a quail-friendly home. How do others set up housing for their domestic quail?

Chooklits home for indeginent quail!
Something the size of an outside raiibt cage will hold 8-9 quail. I give everyone a hiding box and a sand box. they like branches and stuff to hide too, but mine don't respond to those liek their boxes. they like to sit in the hidy box with there heads out to check everything out. They also like levels and ramps if you are feeling handy. Those are more of a pain to clean however.

Wire is good for them but they need some place thats not as hard on their feet. this the boxes and the sand, etc. They need either a tall cage or a soft top otherwise they will hit there heads and have issues.

Depending on how agressive your quail are you want 3-5 girls per boy. And you might still have girls that look like they need quail hats. Just depends on how big yor boys are.

Deb, Ill save a few of Ginger and Esters babies for you. I'm sure we will be meeting up at some point. Think I have 3 of em. Looks like only 1 Iowa blue made it to lockdown...

Sick chickens still sick, but I found snot on the bottom of purples beak, so think shes got the same thing as snotty who is now in the bathroom. They are on drugs but getting Purples to drink anything is still problomatic. One drip at a time, many times a day. She better live shes a ton of work! Snotty is eating and drinking well, so if she is around tomorrow she should be fine. Why is it always the best pullets and not the funky roosters that get sick?

My house got broken into yesterday. I spent from 5 or 5:30 calling the police, because it wasn't an emergency and the non emergency number was a complete mess. They said they couldn 't put in a call because the whole department was on a Condition Yellow. I was told to call back after 9pm, but just before 8:30 I started again. Took 7 tries to get through. Then I got a dispatcher who kept asking why I hadn't reported sooner. I told her what I had been told and she sounded surrised. She asked if a call had been put out and I told her no, so she put one through. She wasn't pleasant either. So the cop left about 11 last night with report and pics in hand.

We know it was Dakotah's best friend. He's only ever had one other person over and that was once. They stole his PS3 and bunch of games, a camoflage bag and all his pillow cases and then Dakotah asked if I had looked under his bed and I said no. I spent over $100 after Christmas to buy him a BB gun and things to go with it. It had never been used since I haven't found a place for him to shoot it. The took that and filled the magazine and left what was left in the bottle. That thing sits against his wall way under the bed. He seemed to think it would help if anyone ever broke in, but it wasn't ever loaded and was in the box. DUH! There's other things missing too. This kid has shown up at least once a day for 4 days straight. He asked to spend the night on sunday and I said he needed to get his grandfather on the phone so I knew it was ok. He ended up calling a friend and going there. When I went to talk to his grandfather yesterday, because I just had a feeling, he said that he hadn't been home in 6 days. Then he said he had been hanging out with some bad people and he was just tired of him. While I wason the porch talking to him and the uncle, the kids younger brother went to the car to talk to Dakotah. I guess he's doing drugs and just getting out of hand.

I'm so upset. I've spent the last 2 years treating this kid like part of the family. He's here weekends (Dakotah was with my daughter this weekend), he's gone to family functions, birthday parties. I even take him to Santa Cruz every sept for the Cheer competitions my grand daughter participate in. Family even asks how he is when I'm talking about the kids. Dakotah is just so down and bummed out. He has a few friends, but this was the closest one and he's just heart broken and upset that things will never get replaced. Man am I tired of the way life around here goes these days.
