Wow, those tomato cages are interesting! Our garden wasn't that great this year, it was so hot and dry.
Thanks for all you ladies' advice. I will try to write down stuff that has happened in the past few years. Some things from several years ago I don't remember the details very well, so those memories are already fading.
We're going to look for a realtor from up there. As long as my SO has his job here we will keep plugging at it. But I think the type of mortgage that we get may require it as a primary residence or we'd have to get it as a vacation house but that may mean higher taxes. I will have to start writing online again

I used to be able to just move around and make a little $ writing, I just needed an internet connection. I guess I'd end up like Thoreau but in the 21st century

I never got mine in. That's what we were working on when my husband died. I didn't even take care of plants in pots or the flower beds I put in. My yard is aweful. My SIL came and put in a sprinkler system and a new lawn in the front. The flower boxes aren't finish, and he's back to working full time, so I guess instead of him doing it I will. He was going to use it though as an add, so although he wants to do it, I just might. He want to add a drip system for me first, but they have so much going on I don't know if I should plant or wait. Just the lawn makes a big difference from the weeds and horrible grasses that were out there before. The gophers though! OMG! They're everywhere and I get rid of them and they come back in droves.

I dug up a section about 20 x 20 in the back yard for a garden though. I'm using raised beeds like bill and I had planned for me. I only have 4 of those darn board carried back and have 6 left. I don't have a string enough saw to cut them shorter and I had wanted to not have them square, but that's probably how I'll have to go. I'm trying to get them done by next week. I dug everything up weeks ago, it's just putting the beds together now and hurrying to plant. I can still plant broccoli, kale, brussel sprouts, well a lot of thing. LOL I'm also doing on mostly for the animals, plus they'll get what isn't used in the people garden. Doing it to share with them. I just noticed a whole corn field again last week that is just starting to come up, so maybe I'll throw some of that out there. For the birds I'm planting scratch and wild bird seed and some rye grass. If I have room, alfalfa. Hope something grows. I used ot be able to grow anything, but my mind wonders these days.

I like those tomato cages. I'm making some of those! Maybe not as big or as many, but maybe one or two. I think I'll do smaller ones for chilis. You can never have to many chillis around with chickens. Down the length of one whole fence I'm going go plant BOSS. Also goin gto use buckets or anything else I can think of to grow what I can. I'm thinking garlic too. Then I want to put together tubs covered with wire for each pen, so things will grow all winter without being scratched to death.

I used to write online when I first got internet. I did mostly articles for newsletters. Not much money but fun. After my last two stroke I told my husband I just couldn't do them. Told him I was once articulate, but now I aren't ticulate.

Excuse me for laughing because of your play on words.

If we were neighbors I would gladly work with you on your garden and whatever you needed. I wanted to do some raised beds this year but since we aren't staying here for that long, I got too lazy to try to do them.

I am reposting the below item from the "injuries" forum. Original post at: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=590183

Need help with injecting penicillin - I live in Orangevale, CA

So I did my first penicillin injection yesterday. It sucked. That stuff is super thick and clogs the needle. Then my stupid needles are too long, one inch needles and I only need to go in 1/4 inch. My little chicken Nugget is small and somewhat thin, so I put a sticker on the needle so I would know when to stop and not shove it in too deep. Well, I ended up giving the penicillin Sub-Q instead of IM (under the skin instead of into the muscle.) Very frustrating. Three more days of this and I have no confidence in my ability to administer the injection. Any of you peeps in the Orangevale, CA area (suburb of Sacramento) want to come over and help me out?? Or I could bring her to you! I know this is chicken country, so some of you have got to live near me....hopefully. I need help, or maybe a vet recommendation.

Yesterday I also did some more foot surgery but was unable to find any pus. Her foot was still swollen, and I massaged it a lot before cutting. I cut in like 3 places and could not find anything other than blood, but some of it appeared thick.

Have you asked at maybe a feed store. I know there's one near me where they will do them or show you how, but I'm in Modesto. Hopefully someone close will chime in and be of some help.

I've dealt with bumblefoot before, but never did a cut. There are some great threads on here that are step by step. I did a soak, but that's on a thread too and not sure which on eit was on. Can't even remember what I used. I'm sorry.

We just had a small earthquake here. Well actually about 35 mins ago? Didn't look at the clock. There was a tiny one followed almost immediately by a bigger one. Looked at the USGS site and they have 4 listed with the largest being around a 4. Not enough to knock any pics off the walls and certainly not big enough to get out of bed for.

It was centered Just south of Portola, CA (I am about 20-25 mins away by road but half that as the crow flies).

That must be why I started feeling queezy. I get that way especial with tiny ones and wonder why I would feel it out here. hmmm And the dogs went nuts about that time, so I crated Dusty in the garage and Isis is ground, so she's in the bathroom. LOL

Actually you probably felt the one closer to you. There was one last night only a couple of hours from you. Here's the USGS page that lists it. It was a magnitude 3 http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Quakes/nc71670931.html
But
there have also been others like this 3.6 next to Berkeley at 12:36 last night. http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/Quakes/nc71671256.html
