YES! Now I remember that pet store! I had a visual flashback!

I LOVED going to the Claremont for the holiday buffet when I was a kid!

I remember they had whole smoked baby Octopus and I tried to eat it, starting with the legs and they were so tough and chewy that I gave up

We are very lucky to have inherited our house and 42 acres from my husbands parents
big_smile.png
I can only have my chickens on less than an acre of it though because his parents set up a land trust and the property is to stay natural. We don't mind that much. It is like living in the middle of a park. The creek attracts a lot of wildlife (Mountain Lion, Coyotes, Raccoon, Bobcat, Otters, Mink, Fox, etc) so my chickens can't free range and my chicken pen looks like a prison with strands of hotwire top and bottom!
hmm.png
I love all the wildlife though and my chickens are safe, so I'm happy

I hope you find the property you are hoping for

Real estate in our county has really gone down in price with the poor economy, so there are some great deals to be had!

The day before Bill died I told him I'd move anywhere I didn't bake, no snow, and where I could get to the ocean in less thsn 1/2 hr and the mountains in less that one. LOL He said, let's go. Then he left me here behind. Not fair I tell ya. Now I need to so cheap a penny would squeel, so it's not going to be easy. I'll find something though. We had even talked about the Clear Lake area. We loved it when we went to Chickenstock just before he did. We talked about looking for at least vacation property there.

Elmwood had a space out back and when puppies got to big for the window she'd put them out there till she could rehome them. She could have a store full of people and see me and smile and nod, so I'd go out and take home a new puppy for free. LOL Every time I walked towards Berkeley my mom would yell behind me
NO MORE ANIMALS!" Most times I wouldn't but being grounded for a weekend when I did was always worth it. hehe

Hi Kim,

I found this about the South American Chickens:

Seem to be variations on the Araucana chicken around the world and of course all around Chile.

Collonca chicken is some sort of mutation of Araucana chicken and lays blue or blue with brown spotted eggs.

Supposed to be some sort of "modern araucana" breed which is a cross between a Collonca and a Quetros chicken. Brown or blue eggs.

There is a "Black Araucana" that the Mapuche called "pio" and it lays blue or green eggs.

There is the Ameraucana which is another variant of the Araucana and has been popular in North America for some time, and it lays blue eggs.

There is a weird mutt-chicken called the Easter Egger but it's not pure enough to be considered a separate breed, though it lays blue eggs about half the time.

And then there is the original, common Araucana chicken ( "gallus araucana vulgarus") which lays all sorts of colours - blue, green, olive, bright green, etc.

If you want those odd colored eggs, you will have to get the Common Araucana Chicken. Problem is, they have a fatal Gene associated with being rumpless, so they have terrible hatches. That is why the Americana was developed in the 1970's.

Yeah that fatial gene sucks. I have bantam Japs and they have the same thing, something about the legs.

I have Ameraucanas, EEs, Olive Eggers, but I don't have anything like I had all those years ago. Sure wish I could find those birds and I been reading yet again about all of these breeds and some of the crosses, but more eggs are only blue.

Went out to start cleaning up and thought "WHY?" I think I'll just keep doing what I've already been doing out there and clean it up as I get to it.

Gonna post chick pics from my hatch. A couple of eggs still look to have viens and a couple I' not seeing anything but a mass, so I have 4. Then again those eggs set for almost 2 week before I stuck them in the incubator, so I guess this is a good hatch out of the 9.

This weeks hatch and two pics of one of the brown ones to show the color. Hope they show up.

Here's what's weird. Bird Bird is a splash. I have one blue OE roo, Jovi who has feathered shanks. Then I have AM cockerels that are black, blue, and lavender. Also my FBCM. These are the roos that are out there. I have one chick that looks to be black with feathered shanks. One I'm sure is blue, clean legged and the other two are different shades of brown and clean legged. Two have pink legs and 2 have a dark area up the front of their legs. I've never hear of a hen laying eggs from more than one roo at a time. I know for a fact that a dog or rabbit can, but what's going on with these guys?

Yep, you PMed me one time hoping to get some of my buff laced Polish bantams. My one pullet just laid her first egg yesterday!

Now I have to pick which rooster to use. Can't wait to hatch out some babies in the near future!
clap.gif

Things are great because I have lots of chickens, probably too many though
hide.gif
I had way to much fun hatching Ameraucanas and my BLRWs this summer
lol.png
If I had room I would love to add Seramas to the mix. I think my granddaughters would love those. Do you have any with the chocolate color like the one that SilverPhoenix/Kristin got at the Stockton show?
love.gif
I have a thing for the chocolate color right now.
tongue.png
I tried for WC chocolate Polish babies but my eggs spent an extra 2 days in the mail due to the backlog from Hurricane Katrina and only two hatched, a WC khaki cuckoo pullet and a dark blue pullet with cuckoo markings in her crest. I will try again in the spring

Should be interesting to see what color the brown ones feather in

Genetics are a funny thing~ I have a splash BLRW roo that seems to have the wheaten gene (not sure what that means yet) because splash x blue is supposed to give you 50% splash and 50% blue but the chicks that hatch out mostly yellow from my BLR hens look just like a splash chick but feather in blue
ep.gif
So I am getting ALL Blue laced reds out of this splash rooster when bred to BLR hens

Hi Kim,

Those eggs could come from an indian Chicken which may be the progenetor of the Aruacanas. I found this:

GALLUS ARAUCANA ECAUDATUS OVIS TESTA COERULEUS

Indian name : 'Colloncas'

Colloncas are NON-TUFTED / RUMPLESS

Eggs : ( a ) Blue with Brown Spots

( b ) Blue

(CORNEVIN & CASTLLO)

Where the eggs blue with gold or brown spots?

You might be able to get some of these chickens.

Good Luck!

Ron

Don't know just mom remembers a royal blue and really green eggs. I'll ask her if she knows more.

Well she says it was a woman and a girl. The girl bought an appy mare named Molly from my moms other friend, Rose. They had a rehea and if I remember right she said it was in 1975.
