Have you ever used Delaware hackle feathers for earrings? I want a pair.

Kim

I have been using black & white feathers from the Delawares I processed awhile back. They were actually Indians Rivers but presented like the Delaware side of their genetics. I just pick through the feathers to find the right ones in matching pairs & go from there. I am working on some red & black ones from maybe a BCM cockerel for my great niece. Amazing what you learn picking through feathers.......LOL

Thanks!

I now have 5 out of 8 Easter Eggers out. A sixth is working on it, so should be out soon.

Today is day 21(started at 7:00 last night) and one of the Marans has a finger nail size hole in the shell

The other two don't have any pips, but I am hopeful.

I will post pictures soon. My EE's are mostly white with two brown ones. Maybe I will get a Chocolate one.

Ron

Woo hoo!!!

Thanks ...it has been fun. I went to the Bass Pro Shop & saw what they are asking for hackle feathers. I think I can make more money on feathers than birds........LOL

I have 7 out of 12 eggs hatched. Today is day 22 and I have had 6 of 8 Easter Eggers hatch and one Marans. There are 2 Marans eggs left and one of them has had a hole in it since yesterday at about 4:00 pm. I don't know if it will continue hatching, but I think I hear clicking noises in the Incubator. I will give them more time.

Here are pictures:

Sooo cute Ron. Are those BCMs or blacks? The first pic must be a wheaten.

Well I tried to be sneaky on an eBay auction and thought I'd get a good price on some eggs, but someone who obviously has more money than me got them. LOL

Karen I wish I had started earrings last month. Every single female in my family has asked me to make some. I had intended to do it too and just didn't.

I'm barely getting into the Christmas spirit this week. I'm tired, bored and depressed. What do you do in that case? You make Kahlua! Waiting for the first batch to cool, so I can add the booze. Think I might have to sample some.

I need to find homes for these noisy chicks. Most are the brown ones. Wish they were chocolates though. That would be soo cool.

The one in the middle is the only Marans. I don't know what kind of Marans, I got them from a feed store in Elvirta(towards the river from Roseville). They are my experimenting eggs. The other six she said were Americanas. The guy looked at me sideways when I called them Easter Eggers. The eggs were green to olive with one a nice teal blue. The one on top of the eco heater was from the blue egg.

I am very happy with getting 7 out of twelve. 11 of them made it to day 18. I did a float test this afternoon and two of the three without holes were goners. The one with the hole was a gonner too. One is still in the Incubator because if floated like it was supposed to--about 15% above water. I am learning a lot about this, so should do better next time. I will be waiting until about March though, unless Hupp from Hupp farms says the Blue Australorp eggs are ready

He is on the third year of a breeding program with them. There is a place in Davis that has Silver Birchen Marans so I might hatch them. Oh and Kim Consul said she might have me hatch some of her Dorking eggs for her...Yea I am in trouble.

We all like the Marans the best, so it's probably a Cockerel.

Ron
