CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

Been watching since 6pm. That's the time they told us ut would be on, but the new season doesn't even start until 9pm Pacific. They just filmed it. Wish they hadn't done that. Wonder how many of the people we got this out too gave up?
So if anyone decided to watch it's the new season show tonight.

I don't have tv right now.

Well, I think I have decided not to go to Hollister today. Another long trip alone when I could be getting stuff I need to do here at home done. I am only looking for a few select birds anyway. I need another Dominique pullet or 2 & I need to get out to Bridget's to pick up another Black Minorca pullet. I am going to Stockton & another show would probably tempt to buy more that I don't need.......LOL
I have all the front birds taken care of already this morning & will start on the back yard ones when it gets light.
I have ordered so many beads & plucked so many feathers & need to get more chicken earrings done. I never seem to get everything done..........LOL.
I think I will sell the White A & M Texas Coturnix quails & stick with the Jumbo browns. They are laying very well & the whites are just starting. I am such a hatchoholic that I hatched out anything I had an interest in last season & now will have to watch myself this season. I am going to try to be VERY selective......LOL Operative word there is TRY.......LOL.
A lady called yesterday wanting to sell some LF Silver Laced Cochins. She ended up with 6 cockerels out of her 12. She thinks they are beautiful. She had ordered them as chicks from McMurray. I don't need anymore breeds but was tempted to buy just one for the feathers. I guess any well fed chicken can be soup. She is in Modesto & said she will sell a pair in necessary. She is not a BYC member. I wonder if it is against the rules for me to list them on the auction for her. I guess I could check into that.

Well what was supposed to be a segment was a probably 10 section piece of showing her car, license plate # and pics of her and Landon. I sat faithfully for hours and got nothing else done.

Couldn't even get out of bed this morining and nothing done at all.

Karen I used to buy feathers all the time, matter of fact I still have to order some, but no one here can get those for me. I have bags and bags of feathers I;ve collected and cleaned and haven't done diddly. I also found a box of beads I ordered late year about Christmas to finish a project Bill started and get it to his VA counseller, and never did that either. I looked at all the beads that I had ordered and I can't figure out why I ordered them. I hate that I don't have a good bead store out here. My supplies used to be out 24/7. Sucks to not have the space to do things now. Oh I did get a few earrings made for nieces and grand daughters for Christmas, but they only got my girls started about wanting new ones since I haven't made much since Bill died. Maybe this year they'll have my favorite seller at Pow Wow and I can take care of a major beed fix.

I have so much breaking down around here that I hope I have something left to spend at the show. Car is done for now, haha and now I need to find a new stove. Just didn't have a way to do it with no car.

Off to get plumbing supplies. I swear Bill had a weird way of putting things away and I can find anything. Wish me luck, I'm going to try and do all this stuff myself and hadn't had too in 15 years. LOL Gonna be fun!

Sorry Cheryl, It's always nice to see you too but in the end I think I did myself a favor by staying home. I babysat for my grandson & one of his playmates for a couple of hours, they are 2 year olds. Got 5 pair of new chicken earrings done. They all have my chicken feathers & some even have chicken beads. I knitted 2 Ear warmers with crocheted flowers on them. Hung up my dozens of rolls of wired ribbon on the new racks my husband made for my bead room upstairs. I did all my chicken chores & caught a BCM pullet for a rancher that has been buying some chickens from me, He bought a trio of BCMS & one of the pullets started trying to crow. We can't figure it out because she is pretty well grown & definetely presents as a pullet. I just told him to bring her back & we will swap her out for another. I turned her loose to free range with all the guys. I guess we will see what happens. All in all it was avery productive day.
My Buff English Orpingtons have been laying for awhile now so I decided to fertility test them. I broke 3 of them for breakfast. 2 outof 3 were fertile so I guess that big guy is taking care of business. Yesterday I put 2 eggs aside thinking of throwing them in the incubator & along came my daughters dog & he ate them,......BAD DOG !!!!!!!!! That dog is driving me nuts. He normally doesnt mess with my chickens at all & I guess it was my fault for laying the eggs on the bench where he could reach them BUT........!!!!!!
Kim you are welcomed to come & work in my bead room anytime. I have a long table & work mats set up all the time & great overhead lighting. I have all the tools right there just bring yourself & whatever project beads you want to work on. I am headed up there right now. I want to have alot of chicken things made & on hand.

Well I got the toilet done in just a couple of minutes. The kitchen????? yeah not so great. I went to my daughter's to watch football games since I was frustrated and my SIL was actually a little easier to understand today, thank goodness. He said I need to crimp something. I swear the directions that came with the tube connector is 3" x 1 1/2" and I feel really bad that not to long ago I could see that tiny print, but not anymore. I can deal with just hot water until he geels well enough to come and finish my lousy job. Even through the wire I heard him say, he'd come and do it, so holding him to it.

Karen I looked at the quail and I think I have 6 hens and a whole bunch or roosters. But that would make 2 breeding quads. I don't have lights on them, so they aren't laying yet. They're old enough, just need the light, so if the person you told me about wants them, I have them and they're nice and young. Probably 12 weeks or a little more.

I'm supposed to go to Davis tomorrow for my gdaughter's cheer competition, but I have a swollen knee at the moment, so I'm probably not going to make it. I really want to go, but just don't think it's a good idea. I was going to leave really early to take flowers to Bill, so I guess I have to put that off too. I do need to make it out there since I haven't been since July, but now the car is fixed and I can do it without worrying. Maybe I'll just wait for a time I can also go out on base and shop.

I've been moving PVC connectors around for a couple of weeks and then put them "somewhere sage" and now I can't find them. Finally got the best glue i could find for my hoop house and coops too.Maybe I should clean something. LOL Off to find those little suckers and if I can find them before too much later, I'm gluing them tonight, so I can put everything togethr tomorrow and get these boys that are hanging out with the video games to help. Hopefully they all aren't as clumbsy as Dakotah.

I am no good at plumbing...maybe I should learn but I guess that'll happen when we get to building a cob house. Well I can't make it to the Stockton show. There's a ton of things happening and I know we shouldn't go because we'd have to spend so much on gas. It's 3.75 down here and it just keeps going up. I really wanted to meet people who were going from BYC but that isn't happening. Of course I would have been tempted to take home chickens, and I can't have them right now.

We saw a couple portions of land in Tennessee we might like to go see this spring. They are all around 5 or 6 acres. One has the shell of a cabin. It's $15,000. It has water and power connected, supposedly. I think I have to call the person, because they aren't returning my e-mail. It would just be nice to have an affordable place. I know we can't really stay in California. I mean, we could and pay a lot in rent or buy a house...but we wanted land and we can't get that here without paying through the nose. Plus I have my student loans. I am just excited to start my job and get more experience. Then I'd feel confident in making the move. My fiance's mom thinks he's crazy lol. But I told her, We're young. We can try this out, and if it doesn't work, we can always go back into the rat race. =)

There's someone I talk to away from BYC that was going to build a Cob house with her husband before he died and now she's going to be going to classes to learn and do it herself. They're cute, but I'm clostrophobic enough in my house. I need space. If I had someone to help me do it I would love to build a cargo house. They really have some aweson ones on youtube that I just love.

Off to do more things. I'm going to the auction in the morning and then run off to get something else taken care of before the kids go back to school on tuesday.

Still can't get the leak to stop in the kitchen, so hot water will have to do. I don't use cold to clean things anyway. One thing after another.

His Mom just knows how much she will miss him. We Moms are like that but she'll adjust.

Just having water and electricity out on the property is a huge deal! Those are the budget breakers when buying bare land. Sounds like a great deal. Too bad you are having a hard time getting ahold of the guy.

I love the idea of a cobb house or an adobe over straw bale house would be super cool! Some of those are huge and you can't tell how they are constructed until you view the "truth wall".
