Yeah never fails. As set it should get close to 100% use. I mess it up I'll get less than I would have if I had not had surgery. I'm noticing I don't seem to matter much these days. Hurting and soooooo grumpy right now. At least my animals like me. That or they were starving.

I don't blame you. I'd be grumpy too. Well "grumpy" is a nice word for what I'd be.

Hello everyone! Just an update. My back is still hurting and I went back to the doctor on Thursday. Since I am still in pain, and my left leg is weeker they are sending me in for an MRI. They know I don't have much disk in my L5 S1 but they want to get a closer look than what the X-ray showed. My 7 year old has been doing most of the feedings. My husband makes sure she is doing it correctly and all is well. She took this picture yesterday. She is entering it at the poultry show photo contest. My 7 year old took this (one of her polish pullets) My 5 year old took this one of her Nankin

Kim, I'm so sorry. What frustration!

Sarah, your back doesn't sound good...I'm having back surgery at St Francis in SF on the 13th & 14th and I'm well aware of the lack of disk pain. If you need any recommendations or guidance while you're going through all this, feel free to PM me. Sunny can also help you along and she has the scars to prove it! Sure hope you get some relief soon.

On the up note, your girls are great photographers and helpers and your chickens are my all time favorites! They're just amazing balls of beauty!

Thanks! We are so in love with all our feathered friends. :) My husband had back surgery last February. He shattered a disk July 2010. Since then I have been the one moving the feed sacks, and moving the bags of pellets. I have had issues with my back since my daughter was born in 2004 (had to do physical therapy in 2004, 2005 and 2006). Never had an MRI of my back so I'm wondering what's up. Bending 200xs a day at my job (I'm a Head Start teacher) dosent help my issues. 11 weeks until summer break so I cant wait!

Kim,
How much do you want for your OE pullets?

Hi guys

I hadn't been able to clean under rabbit cages since I first broke my wrist, so got Dakotah ans Kayla out there today with me. Did some one armed shoveling and then turned around and they have hay all over the place. Oh well, it'll be easier to clean next time.

Dakotah can't feed the birds. I have a roo that is out 24/7 and he's been flogged every single time he goes out there. Not to mention that he wanted chickens till mom got carried away and can't stand them now. so I had to fight off the roo while he shoveled and carried buckets to the raised bed. It's full of birds right now that are going through everything. So they pooped out on my. Dakotah is laying across his bed totally out. Makayla ran next door to play the first chance she got.

My daughter and her boyfriend are useless. I had chicks that hadn't had fresh food for 2 days just before Sunny picked them up. I had been able to get out and feed the the couple of days before, but they were some hungry babies for days. I swear these 2 deserve eachother, they have minus brains. I had no water with my recent quail hatch, so have 3 out of 11! One rabbit cage had 2 waterers one had none. No casualties THANK GOD! Brooder chicks outside..........same dang thing as last time. Feeder full of shavings and an indoor tub with my Silkied AM baby! OMG 2 lost FBCM chicks! My daughter tells me something is wrong with my chicks, so I get up and check and SHAVINGS!!!!! WTH?????????? So I have 1 FBCM chick left out of 3! The AM and ohhhh...don't remember what Karen gave me for company foor that one...are fine and of course the OE's that I always get to hatch, but so mad about those Marans chicks I could scream. OH!!! And when they fed then yesterday, they fed rabbit pellets, not layer. I can understand since they aren't marked, but I told then to feed Gamebird crumbles. I got more done with one hand than these ding dongs did with 4!

OK Sunny, is that one chick staying black????? If so it is a pure FBCM from a Davis hen and Prestley/Valentine roo. Should be very nice. If they're mossy they are going to lay either brown or olive.

I have 3 OE chicks if anyone wants them. Looks like all pullets. They're just starting to feather in.

I'm going to be taking some roos to auction on monday. I'm going out to try and get picks, so if someone needs a pretty roo let me know. I'm still trying not to get rid of Jovi, but if someone would give him a good home and return him if they change their mind, I might do that. He's big and gorgeous. His dad came from one of the bluest eggs I've ever seen and was SQ blue AM and mom is a Davis hen, so he would be great with some OE or EE hens.

This is Jovi and Sterling. Sterling was hatched from Lav AM eggs. I've seen a project on the AM thread with birds that look like him, but everytime I ask a question on the thread a bizillion pics go up right behind mine and I NEVER get answers. I wanted to keep him, but need to get rid of roo, soooo He is available too.

Kim,

Come get them and they're yours. My birds are all being separated now for pures only, but I'll have my OE and EE girls to add more to these as I go. There's only three and if I remember right they hatched last weekend.

Sarah I'm so sorry you still aren't feeling well. I had fusion over the L4, L5 and S1 vertebrae but that was years ago. Medicine has advanced since then. Pam's surgery will be much less invasive than mine was. I still have large cages made of titanium and plastic (screwed into bone) in my back. I have to say it was still worth it to me. The horrible sciatic pain I suffered with so badly is completely gone! I still have pain but not the shooting pains that kept me from walking.

No more lifting for me. You can find ways to get stuff moved around without having to lift it. You'll have to learn how to do things differently since you and your hubby both have back problems now. I don't think humans were ever meant to put their backs through the stuff we put them through. We sure pay a dear price for it.

Love the pics!!! Especially that first one! It should win for sure! Both pics are amazing given the age of your girls!

OK I promised pics so here are just a few of the dozens I took today. No contest winners here but cuties none the less!

This gal wants to mother all the babies when they are out exercising with her during the day. But they aren't much interested in holding still. She's already got her nest staked out!

They are really starting to take off and fly. The run is covered so no wing clipping necessary for these guys.

This little fella made a break for it (with the help of the lavender pushing from behind lol). Hubby scooped him right up though and back in he went.

Really curious about the big black box stuck to my face!

Total camera hogs these babies are but the edge made them think twice about trying to crowd in any closer.

OK the Polish babies are at that awkward adolescent phase but since Candy loves the "heads full of pin feathers" stage here ya go...

This little boy and girl seem to have quite a bit more fluff on top than most of them. DH is very proud to show off his babies!

Kim/Wolftracks and Karen/sewandgrow your eggs went into lock down tonight! Many were clear at first candling and then I had a temp spike so I lost a few more. Right now I have 14 in the bator but a couple of them were iffy and I'm not sure if the temp spike has affected their development or to what degree so we will keep our fingers crossed.

6 of the Yokohama eggs are developing very well. Hoping no ill effects from the spike for any of the remaining eggs.
