CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

I bought a cheapy serger years ago and never had the patients to learn to use it, so I had Bill give it to someone who needed one. I have 5 sewing machines, but I am serger illiterate. I need to get quilts made too, but I hust have no space to even do one here. I've done one scenery quilt, but I'd probably not live long enough to finish another. I wish I did have space right now. Not only do I want to do a memory quilt with Bill's things, I want to make a Raider quilt for Dakotah. I've tried to find him a comforter or something that I like, but the cheapest I've found is over $350. I used to sell my handmade ones for that much, but I'm not going to pay that when I can make one. And yes, I've made 49er quilts too. I just charged more for them cause I had to look at them when I made them. LOL

Yeah, they can be a bear to get the hang of. I'm used to mine but even then sometimes I wanted to pitch it out the window. When they are working well they are a dream for quick sewing of outer seams but when they get temperamental... Doesn't matter though. I can't afford one right now anyway but the kids are really pressuring me to finish hers.. The kids will have to buy me a new one if they want it right now.

Hi everybody! Now that I have my hens settled into their pens I'm looking for more wheaten ameraucanas, anyone have any pullets, chicks or eggs for sale? I can pick up on thursdays, i'm near fresno but I can go any where from turlock to bakersfield or even towards gilroy. I also have a brother that drifts around california, he is in socal, whittier area, I might be able to use him as a courier.

Chickee has some wheaten ameraucanas. I think she will be hatching at the end of April or May.

Wow, am I behind.................
Kim,
The middle room in the bottom floor of my big barn is my quilt room. You are welcomed to use it anytime. I am not far. You can drop of Kayla at school & scoot over here & work to your heart's desire. I have a permanent 4' by 8' cutting table & machines set up at all time. I use old Singer 301s for the straight quilt piecing but keep my Babylock Serger setup on the corner of the cutting table too. I used to quilt ALOT & had groups of quilting friends over but somehow some feathered 2 legged critters took over my life & my quilt room got abandoned.......LOL. I will never get rid of it & have a classroom quilt to piece for Olivia waiting for my attention to be finished by May. We can work out there together. Let me know
Uncle Tommy.....I have Claude, Sophie & Rose the trio of B/W AMs that I bought from Jeremy that came from Pips&Peeps that give me eggs regularly & I have Black, Black/Splits & Blues & Splashes too. I just bought 6 B/W AM eggs at Walt's class last Sunday in Rohnert Park from Didolan (Dawn) she had won from Pips&Peeps too. I have a few assorted age chicks in the brooders from my trio & almost always have eggs in the incubator. I have been selling them on Craigslist so if you wants some I would need to know ahead of time to save them up. I am in Turlock.

My serger is an old Elna that was my mom's. It is very temperamental and the sewing machine repairman told me to never let someone else use it! I have used it along with my Husqvarna sewing machine to make hundreds of theater costumes. My daughter is getting married this summer and I need to dust it off to get ready for sewing dresses. It is very old and does have a problem with the thread holder that can't be fixed. I have contacted Elna and the part isn't even available any more. Do any of you know if a stand alone thread holder like this one on eBay would work with a serger?

Oh that would be so much better! Turlock is not far from Fresno.

I don't see why not. I have a stand alone thread holder for my regular machine. It is anchored to the table behind the machine so that I can use the large spools from the serger. You might need to mount that one on the wall behind your machine but it would solve your problem, unless the machine is moved around all the time. Even then you may be able to drill and thread a couple of holes in the housing of your machine and mount it that way.

That would be wonderful! I just put some eggs in to the incubator for my sister, so i'll be ready for chicks or more eggs in about 3 weeks. I'll message you.

I'm a middle of the night sewer. I have no creativity until about 11pm. Bill was the same way and we'd be up all night for weeks when we were making Halloween costumes for everyone. I used to also do Renaissance clothing and we did lots of cool ceremonial robes and other things.

Karen I don't have my grandma's and aunts around anymore who did quilts. They did some awsome work. I might have to get some pointers from you when I finally get to the memory quilt. BTW, that's not what the jeans and shirts are for. I just got this weird idea and want to see if I do do what I see in my mind with it.

Thanks for the advice, Sunny! I think that I'll order one and try it!

Me too! We just have not found exactly what my daughter wants for bridesmaid dresses or her own dress. So, we may be sewing all of them. Good thing that I retired from my job!
