CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

OK I mentioned I had some EEs and OEs hatched out, but I also have some of the Lavender eggs hatch and like I said before I didn't mark them this last 3 times. If anyone is interested, let me know. You'll have to pick up here, because although I'll be going to the Bay Area this week I'll have a caar load and camping equipment, so no room for chicks. I'm going to be listing them on CL also I think and might as well list them on BYC as well. But first, bck to work on my home projects. Going to be 90 today and no AC, so we'll see how long I last.

90 already?!!

Wow I forget how fast it heats up in the central valley. It was 78 here today.

Love the pics of the dorkings!!!

I have marans from my own flock and from Karen's flock hatching right now. Plus the yokos, but only one of them has pipped so far out of 5.

Anyone looking for a dog? My neice is trying to help their friends who lost their home. They have a 2 yr old Lab/Pitt who is house broken and an inside dog. He's trained and has all his shots. He'll bring his own bed, leash and toys too. She says he's playful and sweet and just needs a forever home and someone to love him. This is always a bad part of losing your home. Not being able to find a place that will accept your pet/member of your family. If anyone is interested please let me know.

Kim, how are the babies. Do you have pictures of them? They are a bit young, but did you get any promising ones yet?
They are doing well. I was trying to get pics of how it looks with all of them ranging the yard, ( chickens everywhere! ) but the youngsters tend to stay under cover of the roses etc. Since they are in a transitory stage right now, I haven't taken individual pics. I'm hopeful that some will be good, but won't be able to tell for sure for months. Dorkings are an exercise in patience.

We need to make arrangements for the butchering... I've made my decisions with the Dels and the extra cockerels are getting rowdy... I'm ready for them to live in the freezer

and it's BBQ season.

Dawn, best wishes on the hatching!

Kim, I'm trying to find homes for dogs myself. Try Facebook.

Speaking of Facebook, if any of you want to follow my ranch activities, I have a page you can Like: http://www.facebook.com/StarRoseRanch

Have a good day everyone!

Thanks Kim. Both of us also put it on FB. Hopefully he'll find a nice home between here and there.

Tomorrow morning we're off to camp at the Stanford Pow Wow. I was going to rent an RV, but after seeing how much that would be, I'd have to park it in my driveway for lack of gas money, so we are traveling as light as possible. It's going to cost a lot more while there, but I'm going to the camping store and buy a single burner. My camp stove takes up too much room, but hot cocoa and smores are a must or I'll never here the end of it. No screen tent or table and bench either . Gonna be roughing it this year. LOL

I have chicks due Mother's day, so I hope being away isn't going to mess that up, although the other day I had almost forgotten a hatch and then 2 puffy cheeked chicks were staring at me through the door.

If any of you are trying to decide what to do this weekend, Stanford is a fun place to go. It's one of the biggest Pow Wows on the west coast. I've been going since the first year and have only missed it maybe 6 times in decades. There are lots of vendors, food boths and it's held in the groves, so you kind of forget you are in the city. It's free to attend, and you can buy or bring food. You are also welcome to camp. I think the camping donation is $10. I'll be the one with a bottle of water or coffee in one hand and fry bread in the other. I figure I'll come home at least 5 pounds heavier between friday and sunday. Maybe a little less if I stick to buffalo burgers. NAH!!! Anyway come on out. There's a link in the first post.

Thought I'd share pic from my hatch, I think I planned it pretty well, they all hatched on my days off. There are 8(hopefully 9) wheaten ameraucana chicks from Karen's eggs, 2 EE from my wheaten roo over an EE, 4 BA/RIR mixes from my sister's eggs and 2 silkies that came out partridge which is weird since her rooster is white and we thought the eggs came from a white hen. The paper towel is the last chick that had a little problem working his way out, hope he makes it.

so glad things turned out so well for you Tommy.

It's good to hear they are doing well.

My two Red Stars might be big enough at the end of the month or the first part of June. The one that was trying to crow stopped after I put him in the garage for a couple of nights. Amazingly they are all getting along ok. The Dorking Rooster jumped out of my hands and tried to say hi to the big girls. One of the Hatchery RIRs gave him a beat down(ok did not really hurt him--just scared him a bit) and he came running back to me.

I think he will stay in his pen now.

Oh that is so sad! I hope they find a home for him soon!
Quote: Nice page! I "liked" it.
I have 9 marans out so far but one has a problem with his neck. We'll see how it goes. Only one yoko out so far though and 5 were developed when I candled at 18 days! IDK why they aren't hatching. They always popped out easily before. Most of the marans eggs showed no development at all when I candled. The breeder was having horrible weather and warned me about fertility issues but the yokos were fertile and did develop! I don't understand.

I am so hoping at least one more hatches!!!

OMG!!! You are torturing me! I love buffalo burgers! Actually anything with buffalo except jerky. It just doesn't have enough fat to make a moist jerky. Next year!!! Is it always on Mother's day? I will set it in my calendar now. Steve and I would love to camp with you all next year!

Have fun this weekend!

Awwww!!!

Mother's Day Pow Wow. Always on Mother's Day. This is year 41. I had to figure out that I was 14 the first year. Then I went out and pulled my car supplies out of the trunk for more room and I found my camping pass from last year. The year is on it as well at 40th Annual. Would have been so much easier to not try and figure out how old I was back then and how old the Pow Wow is. LOL

I'll have to make you some buffalo jerky. You have to do it just right to have it take like anything, but it's really good. Although i haven't made it in about 8 years, so I hope it would turn out. I'm exhausted and don't have the car loaded or Kayla or my bags packed, but close. Dakotah is going to wke me up at 5am. My grandson is bummed. He doesn't get to go this year. I just now remembered that he has a game on saturday. Anyway with the extra room I may be able to take some of the things I wasn't going to take. Can not find my camp stoves. ????? I bought a one burner while I was out getting last minute things, but I keep looking at it and trying to figure out WHY??? So I need to find one of the bigger ones in the morning and see how heavy they are. May have to take the one banger after all. I'm beat.

I only have one pic from last year on my laptop, so thought I'd post it. Not even sure who I got this one from but can't find any of mine.

Grand Entry last year.
