HI!!! How is everyone and their chickens?
Mine are doing quite well. I have too many but that's the norm here on BYC. How are your chickens doing?
Quote: I agree. I have never used a roo for anything but breeding but I would also ask about their temperament. My bird's personalities are one of my biggest concerns and I breed for good temperament. I'm always wanting sweeter and friendlier birds so I pick the nicest boys to breed with (that share with the girls and are also protective and alert). A great roo needs to have a great personality.

I used to eat the roos, but that was EEs and they were either too small or took too long to grow, now only the mean, nasty ones get the...cone, the others get sold, its less effort. I've sold roosters on craigslist for $5-$10 depending on the breed, you just need a really neat pic. Heres a pic of a buff orp that I sold really quick, it was only 3-4 months old

oh, I totally forgot there reason i was going to post, I think I figured out whats what, but I thought i'd get some confirmation. These are my wheaten ameraucana chicks from Deb's eggs, they are about 4 weeks old. I'm pretty sure this is going to be a splash roo, he seems to have a bit of a comb coming in.

and here is all of the boys together, mystery splash on the end.

and here are what i'm hoping is 4 girls.

let me know if you think i'm wrong

I think you're right, I'd wait a little longer... but some people are serious experts at sexing Ameraucanas/EE's really fast.

Well wheatens are super easy to sex at an early age cause around 3 weeks they start getting dark (boy) or light (girl) feathers coming in. I've never had a splash ameraucana though. That comb does look like a roo but a close up pic would help. Roos have 3 distinct rows to their comb and the pullets have only one distinct row that shows well, at this age anyway.

Not gone, just have a bad headache I'm trying to keep from turning into a migraine and one more graduation today. Graduation party on saturday and grads are done. I swear I have no weekends just for me this summer. Too many kids with birthdays coming.

I was trying to find a post that was quoted and I hadn't remembered reading the original post. I can't even remember what it was now, but I found posts I hadn't even seen, Two were from Karen.

Karen I think I'm good on feed bags. I have more bags than enery to use for planting, so this year I'm good. LOL And i saw where you offered to hel with Rockette. She's still here. I want to see if by some miracle my chicken whisperer can do something. If not, I'll probably give you a call. hmmmm Maybe I'll just post, so I'm not bawling in your ear. I keep hoping something happens that I don't have to do this.

Think I'll go take an Excedrine Migraine and try to beat this headache to full blown.

It's hard to say what they wanted to use them for. I have read that if you charge even a little bit for the roosters, its less likely they will be eaten.

Do you think they want to fight them? They don't usually fight the kind of roos you have, do they?

A lot of people still think you need a roo to get eggs. Others think you have healthier eggs if they are fertile. Others may actually want to breed your type of Roos.

Chin up! You will find a good home for them.

I'm sure it was to fight them b/c I told them it was mostly tame they never emailed me back lol. There are a lot of people that are into that kind of thing around these parts.
