Californian Rabbits - I got them! Woot!!!

I had New Zealands and dwarfs as pets growing up. We now have one rabbit of unknown breeding. Rabbits are fun. Just watch them if you put them out into a run. They LOVE to dig!

Miss Prissy, do you think that they would do ok in the heat of SC? I really want to get some Californians myself but hubby is reluctant due to the heat issues.

With proper care and attention they will do fine in SC. There is a huge family owned meat rabbit company down that way. (I grew up in Aiken

Hi neighbor!) As long as they have what they need and you offer them some cooling (ice water, shade, fan - just like our chickens) in the super hot August weather they will be fine. It gets hot up here but nothing can compare to the arm pit heat of SC and Ga in summer. LOL

Do you have a website or location for that rabbit company? And you are right it gets majorly hot here in August. Only time of the year I wish I were back home in Canada.

Shade, fans, and ice bottles are what I use. I freeze large juice bottles and take them to the rabbits twice a day. Soon thay learn to lay against the bottles to cool themselves. Heat is a rabbits worst emeny.

The farm she is talking about is Ardeng rabbit. You can't visit there but he sells a "book" that shows how he does his rabbits and how he built his rabbitry.

The Goforths own it.

Search Ardeng Rabbit Meat. He has some NZ, some CA, etc.
