Call Duck egg incubation question, new question Post #25

Thank you! I'll need all the luck I can get from the sound of it. My own duck eggs hatch so well it seems too easy, but all the websites I've just looked at suggest Call ducks are hard to hatch.

S&N Livestock :

guess my site not to good hmmmm..

I didn't see yours! I would never suggest anyone's site wasn't good, I didn't go from links on BYC, I just put "Hatching Call Duck Eggs" in my search bar for AOL and their site came up. I'd be happy to look at yours too!

Hi,
I'm also going to try call eggs. I also have chicken eggs in the bator though. Should I still cool them daily and will that bother the chicken eggs? How about the misting? Will that raise the humidity too much for the chicken eggs?
I've also heard to mist them with vinegar/water or to put it in the trays. I guess it's supposed to help soften the shells because call shells are supposed to be really hard? Has anyone heard of this? It just doesn't sound right to me (there's no vinegar for the momma hens to spray them with

) If this is supposed to help, once again the question: will this bother the chicken eggs? And what is the percentage of vinegar to water?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks all!

I agree with the call ducks in the carton method - that is how I did it last year. AND I had to help all but one out at day 26. My broody duck however, 3 outta 4 with no help at all - show off!

I have some calls in the bator right now just because I had to test for fertility - but when I'm done with all my auctions I'm letting her take over this year as well. Call eggs were the first eggs I ever hatched and I think I got like 3 out of 10 to hatch (of the ones that were fertile) in the incubator.

Plus, the higher quality they are the harder it gets. I always keep my humidity at 65% and then raise it slightly for hatch - but I live at 6500 feet and our normal humidity is like 20%, so I have to do that.

I'm paranoid about the helping them out part on Sundowns site, but it makes sense. I'm wondering if that is why the others died before hatching ,they couldn't get out with thier round little bills

I've had a hard time hatching them - but I'll gladly keep trying cause they are SO worth it --- (gonna try the carton hatch next time)

aren't they the most adorable things??? These two babies are a little smaller than the chicken chicks that hatched the same day as they did.
