Call Duck egg incubation question, new question Post #25

I have Welsh Harlequins in the 'bator right now that are due to hatch the middle of next week! This is my first time and even if only one hatches I'll still consider it a success and will be happy. But I have few question about hatching though. Do you have to a hatcher or can you let them hatch in the incubator? Where would I even find a hatcher, or can I make one? And are the temps and humidity the same in a hatcher? For those that use egg cartons, do you just lay the carton flat in the hatcher, with the eggs in the carton small end down, and just don't bother them until they are all completely hatch?

I have a seperate bator for hatching in, simply because I set eggs all the time - and not all at once. You can hatch in the same incubator that you incubate in, just stop turning them at day 18 for chicks, and call ducks at day 23 (or so) and other ducks at day 25 (or so), and set all the eggs at one time. A hatcher is just another incubator that you use just for hatching in. It comes in handy for poultry addicts and other strange folks who must hatch at all times or become "chick deprived"

At hatch you bring the humidity up higher, but the temps pretty much stay the same.

I used to incubate in egg cartons before I got turners, and I just tilted the whole egg carton to "turn" them. Don't leave them flat, they still need to be turned. You can prop them up with a small block of wood or something to tilt them one way, then switch it a couple times a day to tilt the other way.

If you do use egg cartons, I suggest the cardboard ones rather than the styrofoam and cut holes in the bottom of the egg cups, for more air circulation.

hope this helped

My buddy with the Call ducks just brought me some more eggs, one of them is a Muscovy. If I decide to hatch the Muscovey, I've heard they take 35 days? Is that true? Also, one person in IM asked me about buying some of the Call eggs and after I speak with them again I might have some of the left overs for sale for him.
