Call Duck Eggs

They have all died, only one was left that had movement the vet made an air hole and we decided due to the age of the eggs to assist all the way in the hatching. There was still a large yolk sac the little thing was peeping and opening its little bill. He/she only lived about 3 hours.View attachment 1666012

I once had an egg be broken under a broody hen, it was bleeding badly so the only thing I could do was get it out, I kept the tiny little duckling warm and comfortable beside me for his short 24 hour life. It was such a beautiful little duckling too.

I'm so sorry you had to go through all that... so very heartbreaking.
But I just know that you did everything you could... it just wasn't meant to be this time. Yes, I hope you can start over with some new ducklings and find comfort and happiness in raising them. Good job getting your photo uploaded!

Thank you for everything. Everyone on this site is so helpful and understanding of others. I wish I had found this sooner. I just hope they did not suffer.

I guess when you have animals things happen that we cannot prevent. It just sorta has me pretty upset, to make it all that way and then die. I appreciate everything. I'm sorry to hear about your experience too. Animals are just so innocent it hurts.

Congrats on getting a pic to load.

I do hope you will try incubating again. It can be rough in the beginning, unfortunately there is some trial and error when we all start out.

But if you try again, I would highly recommend that you get a new thermometer and check the temperature inside the incubator. 33-35 days is wayyyy too long for call ducks. If incubation temps are too low, development happens too slowly. I think your temps must have been too low.

What a beautiful ending. I was praying this last little one would make it. It was alive and peeping when we made the hole, but the yolk sac was still so big. I wish I knew what happened.

This was another picture I was able to upload look at the ring at the top of the egg. This was the one egg that was 34 days in incubation and was alive when opened. What would cause this

Had it internally pipped? Discoloration like that is usually from moisture leaking thru the membrane, either by a pip or even an attempted pip. Or could have been from the extra number of days at higher humidity.

ETA sometimes if they try to pip on the wrong end or outside of the air cell, we will see bruising like that because moisture from inside the membrane has touched the inside of the shell.
