Call duck nesting

He might turn out to be an excellent co-parent, you just never know... just wanted you to be aware in case he doesn't... good luck on the hatch! :)

While mummy was swimming I had a peek at her nest and one of the eggs is very discoloured, almost bruised shade. Could that be an issue? Would mummy discard any bad eggs? She is bathing a lot now so I think she is near hatching time

It could be bad, but I'd candle to make sure... sometimes I get some that do that and are fine... no, she won't... she'll sit until they hatch and leave the rest when she feels they're done...

Random question, is there a preferred time for eggs to hatch themselves during the day? Will they naturally hatch in the morning, afternoon.... Do they not care and may hatch at night? I tried shinning a light through one to see if anything was inside and the eggs wiggled so there is something in there!

Great to hear there's life in there! :D

Nope, no set time for hatching... they'll hatch when they're ready and from internal pip to hatch could take 2 or 3 days... from first to fully hatch can take the last up to 24hrs to hatch as well...

Today we had 4 hatches, so a 100% best for Mrs duck! 2 black ducklings and 2 ginger!! Not sure if that's normal but they made it!

When I was putting them away last night I saw eggshell and at first thought cannibalised, but then heard a tweet! Mummy let me lift up a wing and there where little fluffies!

I'm hoping they will come out for food today as I spend an hit in the dark moving them to a new enclosure haha! Double layered 6 ft high roofed 1cm grid fencing with an internal 1ft metal fence so mummy and daddy can go to the big duck pond and the ducklings can only get to a shallow one!

Correction, 2 black and 1 ginger, the 4th egg was rotten, not sure how I mistook something for a 4th duckling! They all came out today and have spend the day foraging and playing!

They are adorable!!

Would love to see clearer pics, looks like the parents are black bibbed?
If they came from mixed color breeding then they can throw other colors that they carry from that... also, might I ask where you live? Country wise? We call some colors by different names depending on which side of the world you live on, lol...
