Call Duck Questions Please

Mrs Turbo I sent you a PM about your ducks and chickens. I live in Mt Sherman Ky. I'm not far from you.

I have two call ducks right now that I didn't plan on housing with the chickens, but they moved in with them on their own, so I let them. They all get along great, but my chickens are a very easy going bunch, and even my roo is the biggest sweetie you'll ever meet.

I'm getting three more call ducks this coming week, so I'm not sure how I'll do the housing - I have a spare coop for the ducks, if I can talk them into using it and not staying with the chickens. They all free range during the day, and the ducks just follow the chickens into their coop at night.

They do make the coop messy though, so I'd rather they had their own coop to mess up and leave the chicken coop a little less muddy.

The ducks don't hang out all day with the chickens, usually in the morning and evening, but during the day the ducks will go their own way and do what ducks do, and then they meet up at night and go in together. I wasn't sure they would get along either, but they've been doing great, now for the short time that I've had the two calls.

Thanks Meri.....I guess I forgot about how messy ducks can be. lol My chickens are bad enough especially the big girls! Right now I am to the point that I can't stand the coop & all the frozen poop that is stuck everywhere

Maybe I can house them in with the girl goats, they are messy too....

I would love to have some Calls but I just love birds....Cayugas are cool too. But anyway, the Calls come in the most delightful colors and of course they're so small and cute that you can't help but love them. Sounds like they're a big hit when being shown too.

I also have some questions, are they easy to tame? Are they small like people say so?

1. yes they are very small but easily fly
2.They get about 1-2 pounds
3.Calls are very friendly people say pekins are the friendliest but I disagree I think calls are mine follow me every where and always want to be held or petted.
4.they do not need to be incubated they will hatch just fine on their own.
5.They are not messy at all they are deffinetly one of the softest ducks I've ever had but if you want clean don't ever get muscovies I have 2 and they are disguisting

6.everything I can think of needs a light until they are juviniles
7.they are very easy to care for I actually keep mine in a coop for the winter but I would recommend putting straw down where you are putting them
They are the best ducks I will probably ever have!
