Call Duck

What is your plans for her? Since she is a single duckling and has most likely imprinted on you, have you considered keeping inside as a house pet? I can't imagine a call duck being too much trouble. They sell duck diaper harnesses to contain the mess. I don't know about color, maybe a snowy call duck?
Definitely not snowy

Oh how beautiful. I love the pastel and butterscotch. But if its a male ( drake ) .. wouldn't it look like a mallard color ?

He or she will stay inside with us.. we are not parting with this little cutie. We just love our call duck. .. so much fun.
I have to try to find where to purchase the diapers.. I know you can get them .. just don't know where yet.

if you're meaning look like a mallard color as a baby, then no. All babies look the same regardless of sex unless they are sex linked. Of you're meaning as adult than yes, he would look like a mallard pattern but different color to it.

Oh my goodness, i LOVE all my ducks..but there is no way i'd live with them in the house full time. whew..when i hatch them I keep them in the house on my sunporch in a pen until they get big enough, then they move during the day to an outside pen and back in at night till they're fully feathered..then they free range. I went out of town overnight and had my daughter watch them, well they got out of the pen for just a couple hours on the back porch and the mess was ridiculous!! granted there were 5 of them..but wow..the smell and the mess..i had to bleach the floor..sweep, mop..just no way..and even with diapers..i know some people do it..but I like my ducks to be ducks..thats why i love them..to watch them outside, and interacting with each other is amazing.

The main downfall i see to this if it is a house pet other than the mess is the noise if it's a hen. Call ducks are called call ducks for a reason and that reason is they are LOUD! My show hen can be heard 1.5 miles from the house when she is excited or irritated.

Thank you .. but this is something I've wanted to do since a was a small child. We are enjoying him or her to the fullest and plan to continue to enjoy it. Long term .. I have no idea what will happen .. we will do what we need to do at the time. As for now. Erki is our pet and we love him or her and are enjoying everyday . As for everyone else and what they choose to do.. it doesn't matter to me. I came on this forum for helpfulness from anyone willing to answer my questions. And I will continue to do so if needed. But I'm not going to let anyone discourage me in anyway. Thank you !

I keep a call duck inside as a house pet, and it's a lot of fun! Having a whole flock inside would be a disaster, but a few indoor ducks can be very entertaining. The biggest issue for me was the smell, but I splurged on a Hepa filter and that made a huge difference. Keep in mind that you're going to need to clean the cage very often--probably not less than every 3 days. But, if keeping Erki indoors is what you want to do, go for it! I really enjoy keeping an indoor duck.

1.5 miles? good grief, i admit no clue on what my pair are but they are LOUD mind you they compete against a macaw lol so their still less noisy but their giving her a run for her decibel level.
