Cracking up!!!!! Ok Amykins, checking in for my daily update on Wobbles and Wynaut! How are they doing?

Hehe aww, bless! Wobb;es is doing great! This is gonna sound bizarre, but...he poops in the corner. I have NEVER seen a bird poop in a corner. It's kind of awesome. You can always tell when he's gonna go because he back shuffles super quickly.

The egg is still yet to pip, but last I candled it a couple of hours ago it was still rocking and rolling away in the shell. i'm giving it until tomorrow morning, if nothing, I'm going to intervwne. I fear I may have to since the humidity keeps going down, and I don't think their beaks are large or strong enough to crack the shell. The breeder says it's rare his birds can hatch unassisted. Wish I'd known that before I got 'em.

LOL...yes! My little quacklings liked to poop in the corner too! Not sure why, but easy clean up LOL~So happy he is healthy and doing fine! Please post a pic when you get a chance!

So other little egg is still working on it! And WOW, not sure I will ever up to hatching these babies if they always need assisting..SO STRESSFUL!

Yeah...they're so worth it, though. It's just my opinion but I think they're the best duck breed ever! They're so cute and tiny, and super friendly too!

Regarding that egg, it's been 48 hours now and no external pip. I can hear the baby's chirping getting louder and louder, I think I need to intervene.

Climbing over me, the bed, and running after me through the house seems to be working his toes ok. I've also been giving him warm water "swims" in the sink, which he loves as much as drying himself under the heat lamp! So far his toes seem fine. I appreciate your concern and I wasn't trying to question your expertise, I really do appreciate your sage duck advice. <3

P.S. the mat is perforated, almost like a net or mesh, so there's that.

NO, she should NOT be swimming. OMG, you should wait until he is at least a week old..

Can you give me the status on the second one?

She's fine, Lacry! Most sources I've read tell me they can swim from day 1, as long as they're dried off thoroughly and kept warm. She had a bunch of gunk on her and instead of holding her and trying to get it off with a q-tip (something he did NOT agree with) I let her have a swim in the sink. I only put her in there for about 45 seconds. She loved it and now she's totally gunk-free! In fact, taking them on early swims kickstarts their oil glands at a younger age.

As for Eggy, I had to help him this morning. The poor thing had pushed his way totally into the air cell with his head caught between his legs! There was no way he'd have been able to pip. I took the top half of the shell off, the rest is up to him now!

Sorry I disagree, I have lost some due to my own mistakes of letting them swim to early exspecially when there is NO mommy around to put oils on the baby.

He's awesome! He's much, MUCH stronger than Wobbles when he came out, was standing and lifting his head within 20 minutes of hatching, compared to Wob, who took 2 whole days to get to his feet. Here are the two, freshly fluffed!




...Of course, now the problem is I can't tell them apart.

Until they fall on their back anyway. The one that gets up right away is Sugarpea. The one that flails around like a flipped turtle is Wobbles. Also, Wobbles likes to wedge her lil' head into my hand, corners, pillowcases, hair, anything to fall asleep in (she also likes the heat pad "pillow" so I think that's her on the left). Pea will just flop over and snooze wherever!

Aww...they are adorable

I am so glad that they are healthy and doing well! Poor Wobbles just needed more time to gain his strength and now he has a little friend to pal around with! I totally love how they turn their head to check everything out with one eye!
