Aww...they are adorable

I am so glad that they are healthy and doing well! Poor Wobbles just needed more time to gain his strength and now he has a little friend to pal around with! I totally love how they turn their head to check everything out with one eye!

Hehe I know, right? I am so, so in love with call ducks. I don't think I ever wanna own another type of backyard fowl ever again! Oh, another difference, Pea doesn't give a poop warning like Wob does. Which is a real shame.

Oh yeah. They're bred to have tiny bills, so they often can't break out of the shell on their own. But as I learned with this hatch, as long as you make a tiny hole for them to breathe once they internally pip, you can just wait out the 48 hours or so it takes for them to absorb the yolk, then bust 'em out. Once I learned that, it really wasn't as tricky as I was expecting!

I re-named Wynaut to Sugarpea, it seemed more fitting. He went to the vet today, he was sneezing a bunch so I sent a stool sample off for analysis and he was given an antibiotic flush. I hope he's okay. :/

Ohh okay so how do you make the hole , I'm expecting to get mine soon and they are already a breeding pair so when I et tem I'm supposed to expect fertil eggs with ing a few weeks .

I took a safety pin and scratched veeerrrry softly, in small strokes, on the same spot over and over until I chipped away a pinhead-sized hole at the top of the air cell. That's all it needs to be able to breathe.

Yes, calls only weigh up to 2 pounds so they are small, they have small beaks and small necks which makes it difficult for them to get out of the shell usually a little assistant is needed but some can get out on there own

I get asked all the time, well how do they get out when a mommy duck is sitting on them. Well this is what I have seen, my mommy duck has actually pealed away the shell the minute she hears them. YEH, it was pretty cool to watch.. she will stick her beak in the hole that has been already formed, and start eating away at the shell taken it off little piece by little piece.. I've seen it and couldn't believe it.

So even the mommy ducks help...
