None of my ducks use their duck house. When my 2 girls started laying in the run I remembered Lori's picture of her girlie in the grass so I went and bought some straw and put it in their coop. She kept going inside and poking around, building nests all over but when she would reach the bottom of the coop she would leave the coop and go lay the egg in the run. So I've literally had to make the straw about 10-12 inches deep inside the coop and she is finally using it :) She has made her little round nest that doesn't reach the floor of the coop.

Haha lol. I have a whole bale of hay in their coop, maybe I just need to quit being impatient! LOL

LOL that is hilarious. I got mine at Tractor Supply for $10.99. It looks small but it's super compacted and heavy. My duck coop is 8 ft by 4 ft and I was able to line the whole bottom with 10-12 inches deep of straw as well as 14 next boxes..... and have still only used maybe a 1/10 th of the bale.

What was worse is my dad was with me so of course we sat there for 10 minutes so my dad could explain exactly "where" straw comes from. Lol.

Okay I'll check TSC again, but I will die a little paying that much. Lol, straw back in IL is $3-4 a big bale. Crazy the supply and demand prices from area to area!

LOL. That's funny. My dad does the same when it comes to cars lol. I've only ever lived here in Melbourne so they're the only prices I'm accustomed to lol.

Did you use grass hay? I have grass hay in mine. I didn't put a floor in my duck house because when it gets warm out, I can take all the hay out, hose it out then let it dry out. My daughter put floors in hers. When she hoses it down, it stinks really bad.

If straw hay is better, i will get some. Couldn't hurt to make it thicker. I also put a bag of pine wood shavings in. It keeps it smelling good.
