Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Okay I need to vent for a minute. I bought 3 juvenile Anconas from a breeder, plus 12 hatching eggs for $70 total. The eggs were $40. Well only 2 eggs were fertile at 7 and 14 days. She blamed it on my incubator and I just let it go cause I could tell she wasn't going to give me more eggs. Well the 3 that just hatched were in the same bator, I had 9 shipped from CA to FL and 5 are fertile and growing the other 4 had blood rings at 14 days. Ordered 3 from NC and all are fertile and growing. All in the same bator, same technique, same breed. She has a blue ancona. I had told her I wanted one, well now suddenly instead of being $10 (which is what I paid per duck) it is ONLY available in a quad for $120!!!!! Now I understand increasing the price. Hell I would pay $40 just for the blue because I want it, but why do people have to be so money hungry? It's the ONLY quad she has, the rest are being sold singular, and she's slaughtering them on the 4th, already asked if she would sell separate and she said no. So she screwed me on the eggs and now is trying to price gouge me into buying the other. I hate bullying and really don't understand it. I let the whole egg thing go even though I knew I had infertile eggs (eggs were still clear at 14 days no growth at all). I let it go because it wasn't worth it. She has even gone on posts I've posted on and made comments about overcrowding ducks and mixing breeds (because I mentioned I had 20 in the bator and have Anconas welshs and Muscovies). I live on five acres with plenty of room!!! Why is she being so judgmental? Sorry if this rant isn't welcome I just really needed to get it off my chest. Guess adults are bullies too.

I also hope the two eggs that are growing from her (they hatch this Friday) are blue or lavender so I can tell her to stick that in her pipe and smoke it. Sorry, I'll stop,

Deep breaths. breathe
Not everyone has the same morals as everyone else. Letting them get to you just makes it worse for you not them.

Now break something!

That stinks. Sorry to hear that. Kind of the same thing with the person I got my first call eggs from. Only 1 out of 20 that were shipped to me from SC to FL grew. Thought maybe it was post office mishandling so picked up 7 more from him and again only 1 out of 7 grew. He was basically "sorry about your luck, must be something on your end". Get 24 others from another breeder shipped from NY to FL, packed exactly the same, incubated exactly the same, and 17 out of 20 are growing. Sad that there's people out there like that but they'll always be out there.

Thanks for listening. Yes clousert that is very true, the good thing is there's good people out there as well. The person I ordered them from CA, I only ordered 4 but she shipped 9. Then some I just ordered off of this website, I ordered 12 and she shipped 18. Both these groups have blue, lavenders, and tris so I am hopeful that I will get at least one!!! Getting excited already for the two due to hatch on Friday, they will be my first ancona babies!

Agree and good luck with your hatches. Hope they're what you're hoping for. I'm hoping that my penciled call that's due to hatch next week is a female :) Also hoping to get at least one magpie, butterscotch, and blue from the other 17 due to hatch in 3 wks :) I love but hate the anticipation lol

Funny to hear your stories because when I first got into having chickens I had similar treatment. Some people just don't care.. The person I got eggs from she put them in an egg carton UPSIDE DOWN. Really do you really think you could still have luck with shipped eggs upside down. Well I was not a happy camper and give this person some extremely not so nice words she promised to send me a new batch well it's been two years and I'm still waiting.. Lol. Not"..

The comment I got from some is WELL I GUESS THATS THE PRICE YOU PAY WITH SHIPPED EGGS. Well then I built up my flock and got into selling and swore to myself I would never treat anyone like that, really how can you sleep at night ...

My enjoyment is OMG THATS ONE OF MY BABIES, see others hatch out chickens or ducks that came from my flock omg what a joy...

I've shipped one person three boxes of eggs, why because she wanted a showgirl and the first batch, none the second batch due to hatch this week, hopefully one of these batches a showgirl will pop out because since her order, I've hatched our four showgirls what are the odds???

I think my best person was a lady who wanted a refund because she said I shipped her rotten eggs. REALLY ROTTEN EGGS, I probably would have believed her if she didn't wait TWO MONTHS TO TELL ME...... LOL

So coming from a sellers view you get some really freaken strange customers, but I have also been on the buyers end and know how frustrating it is to get a failed hatching..

Yup exactly!! I love the ducks and I want the best of the best for breeding, which is why I was willing to go back to her for more despite the eggs. Her reputation around here is that she's a royal B, BUT her birds are top notch.

I can't complain about the Juvies I got from her either, she gave me ones that complement each other.

Someone else local told me I screwed up when I told her I wanted to get into breeding. She said she had done something similar, and all of a sudden chicks that were listed as $7 on her website jumped to $40.

Crazy, crazy. BUT I can't stay mad for long because I have duckies hatching every week. My only regret is she's my only local person that has them and I had intended on asking her to help me to pick out the good ones for breeding stock. Clearly not going to do that now, lol.

I think the biggest disappointment was that I thought $40 was ridiculous for eggs, BUT she's such a big place, etc, that I figured I'd be getting fertile eggs (which is all you can ask for). So it was SUCH a let down.

The good thing is I've learned my lesson. I will now be PAYING to have ducklings shipped when I need more breeding stock. Found a couple great farms. I'm on Worth It Farms waiting list and Barn of Angels.

Not sure if I will ever make it to selling hatching eggs. I may hatch and sell for a reduced price just because I love hatching (lol). I just hate that unknown with eggs and wouldn't want to cause someone else disappoint.

Also, I've learned with duck eggs, that patience is a virtue. Ha, after going from buttons that take 16 days to these guys, I am pulling my hair out. I am so glad I set eggs to hatch every week. Makes it easier :)

I'm calm, I'm calm.... I have fertile call ducks eggs!!!!
I candled them yesterday while I was over there messing with the other incubator popping out quail!
Even if I only get a couple more I'd be soooo happy!!!

Yay!!! I hope you get the colors you want! I just noticed (overlooked it because of my excitement with the ducks) that I hatched out a Chinese painted button!!!! I've been waiting for that for MONTHS!!! So excited. Hopefully it stays alive. I swear the little things are suicidal.
