Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Also candled a few bobwhite eggs and we have growth :) such a change from buttons and coturnix. The eggs were so dark I couldn't see a thing and just had to wait and see.

Yay!!! I hope you get the colors you want! I just noticed (overlooked it because of my excitement with the ducks) that I hatched out a Chinese painted button!!!! I've been waiting for that for MONTHS!!! So excited. Hopefully it stays alive. I swear the little things are suicidal.

I lost one of my little guys last night but everyone else is doing okay.
These are coturnix quail. suicidal? mine seem to be homicidal! I have one with black on his feet and the rest think it's food! I separated him last night cause he was the last to hatch and they were trying to eat his feet. Well I tried putting him back in this morning and they still want to eat his feet!!

Yup I've had coturnix before, actually just recently sold out of them. I never worried unless blood was drawn (which only happened once). They seemed to peck at any new ones and occasionally peck at each other randomly. I also heard that the color of the heat bulb can cause pecking. Red is bad I think? Can't remember for sure.

Nope red is quieting.

Whew! Calming is good. Just came on to say that. I thought I had read that red as opposed to white was the better one. I have red.
The little straggler is now in with them. The yellow guy tried to drag him again, but then he started trying to eat his feet and I guess they both figured out it's not food lol!

Haha I knew I heard SOMETHING about red, lol. I have clear and they seem to do okay. We'll see with the bob whites though. I've heard they can be vicious to each other as hatchlings.

Okay so back to the eggs.

On my eggs from CA some of the air sacs look huge. The embryos are still alive and growing though. Should I be worried? They will be at day 25 next Wednesday.

actually from all I have read is clear is the worst, mainly because it interferes with their normal sleep pattern, ever tried to sleep with a bright light on? red or blue is suppose to be calming

Mine single call duck egg will be at day 25 next Wed too. I'm so excited for her to come out. She's due the following day, on Halloween :) The closer to hatching they get, the bigger the air sac should be
