Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Okay call me a dumbie but Im confused. Why didn't you just put it in the turner?

Because ducks seem to prefer to be on their sides and the turner is meant to hold eggs straight up and down. The holes are too small to hold the egg on it's side so she is experimenting by taping it to the turner (on its side) so it doesn't fall off

When I start getting eggs of my own I'm going to experiment with an egg roller that I found plans for

Yeah I'll have to post it tomorrow, my Internet is being crabby tonight.

So I think my one ancona egg is dead. The one has pipped and is hatching normally.

The one I think is dead hasn't pipped, and when I candle it I get zero movement, seriously discouraged right now. Tomorrow is day 28. Anything I should do or just leave it alone?

Not dumb at all, but they are on the turner I have them laying down on it, you see putting them with the big end up in the turner like you normally would, well for ducks I have discovered they don't do very well in this position. So I basically tried several different things because I wanted these bad boys to hatch and every where I read it's alls the same thing "call ducks are hard to hatch". Well I was up for the challenge so I started to think like a duck to try and make since of things.. That's when I came up with my first method that I have posted on my website. Well that method just wasn't good enough for me so I basically stepped up my game And experimented. And this second method is the experiment method..

I wanted to find an easy way to hatch them without all the haste of remembering when to turner them or guessing hummm did I turn them this morning, I know I was in a rush but did I turn them etc.. Or crap I forgot to sponge them, etc...

Well this second method doesn't tAke any thinking or remembering that's why I'm trying. Lol

So if you want to call anyone dumb well your talking to her, the one who can't always remember if I turned them or sponge them Lol, now In case you guys were wondering the answer is. YES!!! It works for chickens too. INFACT I have an incredible high hatching rate with doing the same method for chickens. That's basically where I got the tape the duck eggs to the turner idea. I have used this procedure on my chicken eggs all the time, the only difference is chicken eggs are smaller so there's no taping them to the turner but I do lay them inside the turner... And they stay put a lot easier then the ducks they don't roll off.. Lol

But I have two paint eggs in lockdown and these two eggs were a lot bigger then normal chicken eggs so I did have to tape them.

Now when I say normal chicken eggs, I'm specifically talking about bantam eggs not eggs like Rhode Island Red etc. my flock is 99% bantam.. So to me. Normal chicken egg is an egg the size of a bantam. If you try a larger egg you may have to tape it to keep it from rolling off the turner if you care to try this method..

I would say to give it a couple more days. Some are early and some are late hatchers. As long as it doesn't stink I would leave it

Do you guys have any experience with the janoel brand incubators? That's what one of mine is which the turner rolls the eggs on it. The one I have is small so I use it for hatching now instead of incubating.

I really can't comment on the hatch rate I get in it because the only ones I've hatched in it were shipped button eggs. Oh and my first batch I threw 12 coturnix I got from a local breeder and then I tossed some from my personal birds ( birds were new so I wanted to test fertility). And I had 11 total hatch and one die after pipping BUT I mixed the eggs up and don't know if the ones that hatched were mine or the ones I bought ( whoops).

First one is out, still no pipping or movement from the second. I will leave it alone, but isn't it normal to see them move when you candle them? Duck eggs are going to be the death of me.

I'm with her. I'd leave it. I've had many eggs, ducks, guineas and recently quail not moving and didn't know if they were alive.
The quail I had movement in one...11 hatched.
The guineas it was three eggs - 2 fertile... movement in one... 2 hatched.
etc
If you need to make an air hole I"m sure Lacrystol will be able to tell you when and how.

Okay I wi definitely leave it and hope for the best! I didn't actually see it rocking but I swear it completely changed position 2 days ago when I saw the other one rocking.

Oh and the other is out, I'll post a pic ASAP. God is funny. I have to wait for it to dry out it is either all white ( which would royally suck) or lavender. LOL

I would be making a safe hole by now, the safe hole isn't going to hurt him, its only to allow him to breath easier. The other one will probably get him inspired to come out faster but with the safe hole at least he can catch his breath to get this done.
