Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Because of the comb in the center of her head. Doesn't look like any growth or redness to it at all. Here's a pic of 1 of my baby splash boys.

Oh okay so that shows up right away on them? I'll have to double check but I don't think either has red..

The redness, not right away. That starts coming around 6 wks or so. But the points on the comb start sticking up further off the head pretty quickly. Wish I had a picture of both from when they were babies. Let me see if I can get a couple good pictures of the 5 wk old Barnes we bought yesterday so you can see the difference

Oh okay. These guys are just over 3 weeks old. I looked again, the one I took a picture of the comb is lighter than the other one. Also they have 5 toes? Is that right?

I'll try to get a picture of them outside today.

Haha I agree the calls are cuter. I love the random spots on the Anconas though. The geese I probably won't get, I just saw them and thought "duck duck GOOSE" LOL.

Yes you're right about the chickens!!! They will only be at my house for a week!! I'm getting more eggs from her to test my new bator, I don't want to put shipped eggs in it until I know it's good.

And watch out with Lori!!! You may get a duck that looks like this!!! LOL

OMG, LOOK AT THOSE FOOT FEATHERING. WOOOOO. I DON'T NEED ANY MORE DUCKS LIKE THAT. HAHAHA.......WHITE CHEST COULD BE A MOTTLED. THAT'S THE COOL THING ABOUT COCHINS, THEY CHANGE LIKE THREE TIMES.

Cochin hens are what I want to buy from Lori. At least I hope they'll hatch out to be hens. Just not that color lol. I have 2 eggs from her in my bator now. She's in OH so the cold there really plays on their laying and are only a couple are laying right now for collection for shipping.

That's awesome that Vera is going to take them. I just love the feathered feet on the Cochins.
Its horribly cold here right now, grrrr. My girls are being unpredictable.. **** I can't believe the feathering feet. I bet let me think I have several cochin roosters free ranging, and do I have any hens, hum, there's so freaken many free rangers,

OMG, I DO, I HAVE A BLACK COCHIN FREE RANGING AND SHE AND THE SILVER HANG OUT TOGETHER. wholly crap, I best better lock her up if she's throwing that good of a foot feathering. lol...

but they don't lay blue eggs. hum. can't be her. has to be from the crow looking chicken, well that means the silver is throwing off the good foot feathering **** I best better lock him up. either way someone is no longer going to be a free ranger. LOL not with that good of a foot feathering..

Yeah they are super cute. I've never had chickens or chicks before, it's amazing how personable and fearless they are. The ducks seems to be inherently fearful, and the chicks seem fearless! It's amazing the differences. I always feel like Im going to give my ducklings a heart attack because they freak out when I pick them up. The chicks don't, they are all "hey dude, what's up, give me meal worms." Lol

How can you tell it's a hen??? Or what makes you think it is??? Makes me kinda wanna fight to keep it now, LOL. I thought it was a rooster.

Her comb, her comb is small and cochin hens have small combs. Let me see if I can see waddles..

Not always but usually.. I don't see any waddles, so it does look like a girl, Girls will get waddles but they come in later on, girls are slower at getting them. Plus they aren't as long as the boys. Boys will get them right away.

5 Toes?? NO cochins have 4 Toes. The only one who has 5 would be silkies.
