Call Ducks Finally Hatched

That pretty little bugger is a rowdy little duck! It was pulling feathers out of my indie duckling. I had to put it in with Jamie my week old duckling. I suspect it may be a boy! I hope it doesn't start cross dressing!

YES, ALL OF THEM but I will have to recheck them tonight since we had the Electrical Problem..  I'm sure a couple are going to be quitters, I can see the circle spider shape but it hadn't grown very much, but will have a better idea tonight.

It got a little cold last night so I put a blanket in the cage for my phoenix and the silkies.  OMG, they haven't come out at all since.  They are all tucked in there nice and warmy.. LOL

I am not sure if these are mandarin or whisteling duck egg. The one in the middle is call. Three ware tan / cream colored. And one blue green. The ones in question surround the call. They are shiney and the shell is smooth as glass. Anyone? Need help here!

I think those tan/buff ones are whistling ducks.....

They look like mandarin or wood duck eggs. I believe whistling ducks lay a white egg.

The white faced whistling duck also lay a cream colored egg. from what I have researched, the mandarin eggs are darker. Also there was no feather lining in the nest. I think I should stay away from that nest from now on. whoever is laying those eggs seem to have the instinct to raise themselves. The eggs were carefully placed under the wood shavings, so I put them back when the ducks were not looking. They could stop laying if I raid their nest. I will just have to wait and See. The new wood duck nest box that I am building is Also almost finished. After that I can see which ducks are going into the different boxes.

This is my first year my ducks have been laying, by next year I will be able to distinguish all the different eggs from my domesticated wild birds. I can hardly wait until that day comes! I just love these little ducks! each one hatched is a blessing. A gift from mother nature. Or god, if you believe in that religion. Maybe I shouldn't mention that on this thread. Let me know if I am out of line here.

Clousert where in the world did you hear that you need to drop a duckling in order to get it to eat? I've been raising calls for years and have never heard such a thing! lol I've never had a problem with my babies not eating...I just add a bit of water to make a soft mash and they eat it right up.

And who else has Calls that lay white eggs? I've never had any of my calls lay anything but a green egg...no matter what color the ducks are, my eggs are ALWAYS green. hmmmmm this is weird

She's not talking about Calls as far as Dropping them.

And calls do lay white Eggs. That's all my butterscotches lay..

Ummm, mealworms work just fine to get mandie babies eating, and a lot safer than dropping them imo. Theres a big difference between jumping and being dropped in how you land, no way i am going to drop my ducklings. My first mandie egg is due Friday, one i stuck in my incubator to see if they were fertile, i am so excited!
