Call Ducks Finally Hatched

Thanks for the support. Just so worried. Hatching emu eggs next. That will be an exciting adventure! Speaking of an adventure. This sure has been one. While trying to work with lacrystol yesterday I look outside and my bird dog (A red lab) had gotten into the duck aviary, propped open the door, chased the ducks out and had one in its mouth!!! Luckily she is well trained and once I yelled for her to drop the bird she did obediently and ran inside looking for a treat. Everyone was ok. Managed to get everyone back in the aviary and safe. Also while doing this I gave myself quite a shock when trying to plug in a candler with wet hands. Wow did that hurt though.

Yeah, I remember that from yesterday, heh. A trained bird dog and birds...also, great googly moogly, where do you have the space to keep emus?!

...Also I won't lie I have a hilarious mental image of your bird dog getting into the pens again and being chased off by a bunch of P.O.'d emus!

Please let us know the status of the duckling the moment you get home. You said your teacher friend was hatching out another batch, yes? Will those have hatched before you leave for vacation? And will there be enough collected eggs to send by then, also, just in case?

You are so welcome. Wow, Angovem, never a dull moment at your place with your critters. I'm glad your doggy let the duck go. Whew.

Well I live on a farm so plenty of space. The reason that I waited until now to get emus is that I was worried my dog (when it was a puppy) would run in the emu pen and be hurt so I didn't want that. Cool fact is that she is the rarest coloration of a lab. She is dark red which is rare. She is pedigree. Also she has angel wings (a trait where she has lighter colors in certain areas) chinchilla fur ( A waviness to her hair), Greenish hazel eyes, and a liver nose. All recessive traits! It is called a red Dudley lab. She has got in with the ducks before but has never picked them up. She has learned how to unlatch a door... I felt real bad once because she got into the aviary and my poor abused bunny (rescued him from people that bred him with his mom and sister and only fed him once a week and his water was always brown) was being chased around in a circle by my bird dog... She was okay in the end. She ran into a hollow log.

Well collecting an egg a day right now. They may not be pure chocolates though. I moved her in with the other ducks for one night when it was REALLY cold. I have to wait one more week before they are pure. I will be back from vacation before the other duck eggs hatch.
