Congrats. Have you been misting the eggs, or doing something to keep the humidity higher under the hen. I tried incubating call eggs with a broody hen last year, and had every duckling die from being shrink wrapped in the egg.

Well I couldnt help my self and got some call duck mixed eggs off ebay.Ill set mine in the morning under my blue cochin hen. She or he sent me 16 I think my cochen can handle them she is a big ol girl. I hope they hatch .

Congrats!

Personally, I trust my cochins more than an incubator for hatching call duck eggs. However, I do have 9 in the incubator right now. All 9 of them are developing... due to hatch on April 4th. I've got 12-14 more call duck eggs waiting to go in the incubator. And I just set 5 call duck eggs from a different line under a broody cochin.

Plus I have a dozen white call duck eggs from show quality lines on the way from Oregon.

Update: I checked on the pipped eggs, and they are zipping! I don't have time to count with an angry broody biting me, but I think at least 6 of 9 showed pips!

I didn't mist. I thought about it, but decided I would see what happend if I left it to the hen. So far, she has done her job well. I use gamebird/americauna/???? mix wild chickens (long story) as broodies and they are fantastic mothers! Scott, I saw some of your posts advocating broody hens for call duck eggs, and that's why I used a broody.

Glad to hear you had success with a broody chicken hen. I know a lot of waterfowl breeders use them. In my opinion, they are the most reliable incubator to be found. Particularly for those who are relatively new to waterfowl and artificial incubation.

YAY!!!!!!!! congratuations!!

i'm glad they are hatching for you! i've read from several people that calls are hard!! i'm glad your hen is such a wonderful incubator!! are you going to take them away or let her raise them for you?
