Where is everybody?
Weeding, painting, talking plants with the neighbor across the street..... Eating watermelon, working on brooder, making plans to link up with a more trusted turkey breeder I've dealt with for chickens but not turkeys..... Getting two Eastern Toms and some more RPs.....

Not here. I don't think people pay those kind of prices for chicks around here. Even npip certified. Maybe pullets and older ones - and the breeds you have if they come from a certified breeder. But, generally chicks are $5 or less. Basically a dime a dozen.
The ones I have are show quality. From good breeder stock. And the ROs are not common, they are usually picked from very particular people. They actually have a society dedicated solely to them.

Apparently there must be secret societies for these breeds because, I haven't seen them even for sale in this area. However, one byc remeber who is close to my area (by about 4 hours) has lavender Orps and they ask quite a bit for them. But, they also live in an area where they can ask for higher prices.
Unless someone is looking for a show chicken, they aren't going to pay high prices for "just a chicken" in this area.

I just did a search on Craigslist and there is one listing with some of the breeds you mentioned @MatthewsHomestead with similar asking prices. But, again the area they are in is not this area. I'm telling you most people around here could care less about show quality chickens. ;)
It's like that some places. Check out this site... http://www.heathlanding.com/

This is where our original breeding pair of Chocolates and Ameracaunas came from. We haven't been out since they stopped selling Ameracaunas, but their setup is crazy awesome.

Looks nice, but I don't think my hubby would ever agree to me paying that much for a chicken. ;)
I will ask my 4-h contact see if there are secret societies for chickens around here.
