My brahma has a bare area under her bottom. Not exactly at the vent, but below. But, it makes it look like she has a saddle of feathers in the back. I thought maybe feather picking, but it is not raw or irritated. I thought maybe parasites, but haven't seen any and I checked all of them. Even cleaned and dusted just in case (these eyes aren't what they used to be :old) .
I am thinking it is just her still molting? I looked this morning and I do see tiny feathers that looks like they are emerging.
I want to make sure she is not getting picked on - but I can hardly imagine she is. She gives a nice mean peck when the others get to close. :D

Brahmas may be cute and fluffy but they aren’t going to be pushed around by others. They aren’t aggressive like Plymouth Barred Rocks but they aren’t pushovers like Faverolles.

@Hybridchucks whenever you start to replenish your flock I suggest that you should look into the following breeds to keep instead of production hybrids or sex links: White Leghorn, Brown Leghorn (Leghorns come in a rose combed variety as well), Andalsuian, Ancona, Minorca, Orpington, Easter Egger, Dominique, Welsummer, and Rhode Island Red. These breeds are good layers and will lay into old age and provide you with a colorful flock as well as a rainbow of egg colors.
Sex links and production hybrids are prone to reproductive issues stemming from the high number of eggs that they produce.

I recall reading once their is a cause for that type of feather loss and for the life of me I can't remember what it's called...:barnie...I'll try to think of it and let you know...:idunno

She doesn't like me to pick her up, but once I do she coos, and talks, and settles down. While I was checking her, she was pecking at my coat pocket that has dog kibbles in it. Lol

Thanks but we like our girl's breed. We're used to them and not other breeds. Besides, dad wouldn't get any other breed.
