I'm thinking about getting call ducks but I don't know what they are like. Are they especially friendly birds? Or are they more skittish? I'd love to hear about it!

Mine are fairly skittish as far as approaching you but don't really mind being held. They are precious and so fun to watch. This is my pair of whites.

They can fly, so clipping wings is an option...They are a bit skittish although mine lay at my feet when I sit outside with them...They come in many colours..I can't think of one bad thing to say about Calls....I love them...I have 7 and plan on more in the spring....

Our call ducks are good fun, they have lovely personalities. They are friendly and don't mine being held but it takes them a while to get used to it so take it slowly. They come running now when we go down to see them and are happy to plod along as usual even with us messing around in the allotment.

I bought both of my ducks as adults and they aren't "pets" per say. Their coop is raised off the ground and the only time they leave their coop is for shows or handling. I paid too much for them to put them at risk for predators running around the yard and given their size they should be excellent fliers and I don't know that they wouldn't up and leave lol. I am actually transitioning them to conditioning pens this weekend for a show coming up in a month and I will be getting much more hands on time with them so I will let you know more then lol. I've only had my male about 6 months and my female less than one.

Weird question, do you guys hand tame your ducks? (also your ducks are fantastic!)
No, not really....Many of mine are rescues and ones I either bred or paid lots for....Mine are not hand tame, although lay at my feet and like my company...Easy to handle though to inspect them....Mine get to free range daily and I don't Clip wings...They play in their pools and waddle around as I watch over them...I have trained Dogs to watch my Birds too...
