CALLING ALL CHICKEN EXPERTS is this an auracana or americana hen

she is a very good layer like u said crash 0330 i usually get somewhere between 3 and 5 eggs a week just from her. most of the time she will lay for 2 days then take a break then lay 2 days and take a break and so on. If i crosses her with a rir then i would expect more eggs from that hen and they would b blue rite?

I've read that some EE's will lay brown eggs...

so, cross your fingers.

I have 19 EE's. They lay brown, green, blue, and even pink eggs. They are good layers. Medium sized eggs but lots of them.

EE's carry the blue egg gene, which from what I've heard it's dominant, but that doesn't not mean that if you cross it with a RIR she will lay blue or green eggs, altho there is a high possiblility, like other people said they may also lay brown or pink. But from what I've read on here most people always end up with a blue or green egg layer when they have EE's.
Btw if you cross your EE with a RIR if the off spring has a pea comb then they will lay green or blue eggs, as the pea comb is really closely related to the blue egg gene.

ok thank you. i was also thinking of getting a white cochin bantam rooster too any thoughts on this???

boykin-
we have an EE hen that looks like the twin to yours! My daughter specifically picked EEs based on temperment for her first chickens. Seren is our only white and buff EE and she lays sky blue eggs. She is also Queen of the flock. Lots of attitude!

All EE's carry the blue, but in some individuals it will not show on the egg shell. its like when you cross a silkie with another breed of chicken, almost all the time the offspring will have normal looking feathers, but that chicken will carry the silkie gene in her, and it might present itself on her or his off spring later on.

Here is an Araucana Hen or two for comparison.

I have an EE that lays lt. tan eggs and she looks just like my others that lay blue eggs and came in the same shipment. Not all EE's have the blue egg gene.

I did hatch EE X Araucana eggs this summer but only set the darkest blue eggs from them.
