Back story: I bought a breeding quad of Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas about a year ago. They are 3yrs old this year. The previous year I had a different group of Wheaten Ameraucanas get infected with Bacillus cereus diagnosed via a necropsy with our state vet. She thought it was a bad bag of feed. I rarely give scraps to my birds. HOWEVER, this year, with a new set of birds almost exactly a year later they also started showing symptoms of Bacillus cereus infection too. I recognized it right away, and treated those showing symptoms with penicillin. They had a complete turnaround in less than a week. I’m It was only one hen and one rooster that got treated. This was back in March. The hen has not laid a single egg since then. The rooster is fertile and I’ve been hatching his chicks with the other 2 hens. I made sure I gave them probiotics after the penicillin treatment.
Here is the only issue I see now with her: Her poop. It’s off still. It’s a little sloppy/ploppy and her butt feathers are sometimes messy. One of her “sisters” had vent gleet when she come to live with me but after I treated that hen she was/is fine. This isn’t quite like vent gleet IMO. Another thing I notice is her urate isn’t white, it is more yellow.
The hen is a good weight, and otherwise looking/acting normal.
What do you think of her poo? What could this be a sign of and how can I fix it?
I cleared the other hens Vent gleet with an Epsom Salt laxative, probiotics, ACV, and plain yogurt. That hen bounced back and started laying in a couple weeks. I was thinking about doing this with this hen but it seems kind of harsh for treating something I don’t know.
Close up of her poo. I know it looks kinda normal but it’s always yellow compared to the rest and it’s raised a red flag with me. Especially since she has not started laying again.
Her’s is the far right one as I zoomed out for a comparison of her flock mates.
