Calling All New Brinsea Owners!!! January Hatch-a-long...

Its REALLY full in there but after I went to bed (at 4am) it appears at least a few more hatched. Do I move them to the brooder or wait the 72 hours to see if anyone else hatches, I do have at least one zip going right now some eggs from sonew123.

Let the one that is zipping right now, finish hatching. Once it pops its top pull the fluffy ones out but leave the newly wet one in there to encourage the others and it will also keep the humidity up. The way I get the chicks out is open just enough to tilt to top and get my hand in there. I pull them out like lightening and put them in a shoebox. Replace the lid and move them to the brooder.

Ok thank you so much. I will go check the temps on the brooder and prepare!

Day 21 is over, entering day 22. I am having trouble counting all these cute fuzzy butts. I set 32, 24 made it into lockdown and it appears 4 olive eggs left and one BCM with a pip. So doing the math backwards, 19 little bundles of joy. At least 4-5 olive eggers, 4-5 BCM's, 3-5 jersey giants and few mutts for good measure. I have 3 chicks left in the bator doing an encouragement dance for the remaining eggs, sure would love to hit the jackpot. My DH made an interesting assessment on the phone tonight when I told him at least 15 had hatched, he asked me what I was going to do with all those chicks..I didn't have the heart to tell him its my first hatch I am going to double my flock and keep every last one of them, so I said...well I guess we will just have to wait and see, I may have added in there the extra income of selling chicks and hatching eggs. I have the feeling this may be how it all starts, as for me. I think I am sitting the Feb hatch out an will play with these little guys till March and start another batch then. -Cortney

You have given me the encouragement needed to see if I can stack a few extra eggs in my mini next time...this batch should come out about the 11th of Feb. and we will try a few extras next time. Congrats on a good hatch.
