Congrats on being at lockdown I have 1 week to go! So tell us the long story of why you have a solo egg in your Brinsea, and why you will have another solo soon?

Ok !!Let the good times roll. I'm so happy my rescue chicken is sitting on the roost next to my roo he's sure to take care of her. Shes a sweetheart.

I hatched some Silver Spangled Hamburgs this summer and Simon was the only SSH rooster.

Three hens hatched and two roos. (I re-homed one of the roos early on).

When I bought the eggs, I promised my neighbor some hens, so that left me with the pair: Greta and Simon. I can't keep roosters where I live and I intended to re-home Simon as soon as possible after he started to crow.

Greta, my only SSH hen was taken by a hawk at 12 weeks old. Rest her little soul. That left me without any SSH hen at all.

I then decided I would try to keep Simon as long as I could to in order to breed him with his sisters next door. Well, December and most of January came and went and no eggs from the neighbor's yet. But Simon had certainly found his voice. I knew I needed to get rid of him soon but the neighbor hens weren't cooperating. Tick. Tock. (that's the sound of my neighbor's patience running out)

I attended the Northeastern Poultry Congress in January and I stumbled upon three beautiful and adorable, bantam SSHs that were already at the POL!! They took weeks to settle in from the stress of a new home before they laid a single egg though.

I finally had enough eggs to crank up the first of my two Brinsea Mini Advance bators. Just for ha-has, I added an Ameraucana egg in each one. I knew the Ameraucana's eggs were fertile (because I had consistently seen bullseyes) but wasn't sure about the SSHs. As it turned out, ONLY the Ameraucana eggs were fertile. <sigh>

Fast-forward to lockdown today. One blue egg in each of two Brinseas, set 10 days apart. No Hamburgs. I did segregate Simon with the three SSHs this week when our new coop was completed to the point of occupancy and plan to keep the Brinseas running all through March! Simon had obviously been sharing the love with too many ladies with not enough to go around. Time to concentrate big boy!

Enggass I am using three ... the one with the Brinsea, a standard thermometer and the digital combo unit from Walmart...thermometer snd hygrometer.

I added another 7 bantam blue/black cochin eggs to my Eco 20 last night and another one this afternoon, on top of the 6 serama, 5 bantam cochin, 6 olive eggers and 6 BLRW I already have in there! The first hatch is due March 13 and now the new batch of cochins will be due on March 22.
