I've heard that's the best way to get them started on using the box. They tend to do their business while they are eating so offering food in the litter box helps them go there. My two I was babysitting certainly never tinkled in their pellets. Are you planning on keeping the dish in the litterbox? I would not. He will pee in his cheerios.

Mine has definitely peed in her food dish. On purpose. When the dish was not even in her litterbox. And the dish still had food in it.I've heard that's the best way to get them started on using the box. I'm so glad I coined that term...
lol Just look up how many tablespoons of food he should be getting at that age and weight. Me personally I'd just fill the bowl once a day and make sure he has hay in front of him.
As no one has mentioned "wet tail" yet, sometimes the stress of moving to a new environment, handling, and a new diet can upset little critter's bowels. Mix a handful of dry Quaker's Oatmeal into his food for a week or so. It will help absorb any moisture and keep poops nice and tight. Avoiding fresh veggies and fruits for a week or two is also usually a good idea. And I'd avoid handling him for a day or two and just let him settle and get adjusted.
Shall we dine on delicious spoiled bunny to celebrate?@Conan my one and only. So nice to see you![]()
