Calling All Vegans!

A friend gave me this link yesterday. I think some of you might be interested in it. I have not looked at all of but it seems to be good. It is: http://vegankit.com/
Some really good video links from people that I could totally relate to!

If you are Vegan and have chickens what do you do with the eggs?

For me I only have three chickens and they are bantams. So I only get about a egg a week. Also (I do not think very many vegans would do this but I do) in the summer when I have more I give them to friends because they do not want to go vegan and i would rather them have my eggs then factory farm eggs.

I don't have hens now, but I was getting up to 3 per day and giving them to friends and neighbors, especially those who would otherwise buy industrially farmed eggs. Some of them were scared of the eggs, however, and didn't want them. Weird!
Also, if any eggs were dirty or cracked, I cooked them and mashed them up shell and all (I cleaned the shells first). Or just mixed the yolk and membrane with their feed and composted the shells. Some hens like more shell than others, perhaps according to their needs.

Were do you get your chickens? I have mine because they needed a home from living in the city. So they would have been taken away.

I got them from the local factory farm. I called and made arrangements to pick some up before they were 'sent away'. Still very productive at only 1.5 years old. Crazy! Breed is Lohmann or something like that (derived from the white leghorn, but bred for increased production). I did have to pay a nominal fee for them, however.

I tried to do that. I even was really nice to them. None of them would let me. Sadly... But good for you!

Yikes, makes me wonder if they have something to hide! Even where I went, I wasn't allowed in the 'barn'. It wasn't as though he was in a biochem suit, he just walked in there, wearing his everyday jeans and shirt.
I sure didn't tell him that I was a vegan, just that I was looking for a few hens.

Yeah I acted like I know nothing about how animals should be treated. They told me it was against their rules. I am sure they just do not want people to see how they treat their animals. Even though I already know.
