Calling all veterans and family members. Allies too.

Both of my grandfathers fought in WWII. The only one still living was given the oppertunity to go on an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to see the memorial.

I usually don't do serious....

Dad's a navy brat, named after his father's ship (the bonhome richard), and Grandmother served in WAVES in WW2. My ex husband is still enlisted in the Air Force, and I'm glad he's still around for us to begin the first steps of friendship 10 years after an ugly annullment. I couldn't be a military wife, and I'm in awe of women who can, I wasn't secure enough to try it. Tomorrow I'll be taking a class of squirming kids to the museum at march air force base, so they can get an idea of who and why came before.

Dad was WWII vet along with three of his brothers. Brother number four served in Korea and Viet Nam Air Force.

My brother served Air Force. My cousins two of them, both served in Viet Nam, one still has shrapnel coming out of his skin. Another cousin was in the Army for six years (we forgave her for defecting.!)

My DH served in the Navy 8 years.

My sister has served in the Navy for 20 years as of Deb this year. She served in the Gulf War and has served 3 tours in Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. Her husband has been in 24 years and served in all the same places she did - just never at the same time.

Thank you to all who serve.

I posted last year, but I'll post again:

I have a cousin currently serving out in Iraq. He has a wife and a new baby son in Kentucky.

My brother is a veteran. He's 33 and served 4 tours in Iraq as a Captain in the USMC. He flew helicoptors. He's gone back to school, so is doing Reserves right now until he finishes and will go back to active duty.

My father is a veteran. He was a Navy Nuke and served on a submarine during Vietnam.

My grandfather is a veteran. He served in WWII. From what I understand he was in the unit they featured on Saving Private Ryan. He never talked about his service.

I just reminded my brother that Applebees is serving a free meal to Veterans in honor of their service. A heartfelt thank you to all who served.

I'm still here too. Last year I was still flying on C-130s. This year I'm retired from the Air Force and back near my hometown in Wisconsin.

On a side note, today I went to vote on a local referendum and told the poll workers that this was the first time I had ever voted in person. I always maintained my Wisconsin residency throughout my service in the military, but had always voted absentee by mail since I left Wisconsin 21 years ago.

My grandfather was a pilot in WWII. My office assistant was a nurse in Vietnam. Her son just returned from Iraq and is currently at Fort Hood. My very dear friend is waiting for her hubby to come home from Afghanistan in February. The list goes on....

Many many thanks and prayers for all who serve and their families who serve right along with them.
